Most big racing fans out there have probably heard of Ben Keating, a dominant race car driver who also happens to love the concept behind Garages of Texas. If you’ve ever seen the Hollywood blockbuster Ford v Ferrari, then Keating’s story might resonate with you, because he’s lived that movie. Growing up in Tomball with a passion for cars, Keating was exposed to the auto industry from an early age. After earning an engineering degree from Texas A&M, he decided to pursue a career in the car business. Today, Keating owns 28 dealerships in Texas, representing 17 different brands. In fact, 10 of those dealerships are in Houston, including Tomball Ford, Tomball Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, Keating Honda, Nissan, Toyota, and more! He takes pride in being the largest dealer group in the state and ranks among the top dealerships in the United States. But in 2006, everything – and believe it, everything – changed for Ben Keating when his wife gifted him some time in a Dodge Viper at a now defunct race track in College Station. This experience sparked a deep love for racing and led him to purchase a race car of his own. Despite lacking experience, Keating found himself competing in wheel-to-wheel races, learning valuable lessons through both successes and setbacks. With a racing career spanning over 16 years, Keating has gone on to achieve numerous victories and accolades, including winning prestigious races such as the 24 Hours of Daytona, the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and the World Endurance Championship. Notably, he became the only American driver to have won more than one World Championship, and this remarkable feat is a testament to his determination, skill, and passion for the sport.

As Keating himself will tell you, there isn’t any other sport in the world where a 52 year-old car dealer from Texas can show up and compete in the biggest event on the globe alongside the best drivers in the world. To put this in perspective, it’s the equivalent of an aging businessman getting to play in the Super Bowl and catching the game-winning touchdown from Tom Brady. “The fact that I've been able to do this is really special,” Keating says, “but the fact that I've been able to do it successfully is just crazy.” Although Keating is not directly involved with Garages of Texas, he shares a deep connection with its mission of catering to car lovers and emphasizes the importance of creating an environment where enthusiasts can enjoy their cars.
