Set between Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley and Alexander Valley, predictable spring weather and a focus on the outdoors make Healdsburg an ideal destination for outside play, stay, sip, and shop. Many restaurants feature patios, and others have added parklets to serve more people in a comfortable alfresco atmosphere.
It may look like an artist’s sketch of a village situated in the middle of Northern California’s wine country, but the local working population has always lent a heavy dose of authenticity to Healdsburg’s charms. This friendliness extends to visitors and locals are happy to share a favorite lesser-known winery, hiking trail, or morsel of colorful history.
You can always hop on a Segway Tour along the Russian River or deeper into Dry Creek Valley with several pauses at favorite wineries. A hike among the majestic redwoods in Armstrong Redwood State Park will induce the calm we usually reserve for all those meditative apps.
Younger family members will delight in a little beach play and picnic at Healdsburg Veteran's Memorial Beach, as well as the playgrounds at Badger and other local parks. And don’t forget the hairiest member of the family! Healdsburg was way dog-friendly before it was a thing. You’ll find water bowls outside many storefronts and plenty of area lodging that offers pet-friendly accommodations.
Kids and canines aside, your flock will have a blast here whether you're plotting a girlfriend getaway, buddy trip, long-awaited romantic weekend, or some well-deserved solo time. Whatever your vision, a visit to the stayhealdsburg.com website practically pens the itinerary for you.
It’s a little crazy to think about how much Healdsburg has to offer. Just four-square miles yield 42 restaurants and 143 wineries. A great way to go is to grab a cruiser bike from your hotel or the Spoke Folk Cyclery and make a leisurely pedal of your day. Sonoma County winemakers have always been known for their approachability, so remember to take your time and get to know them as you taste the fruit of their labor.
Celebrate spring in Healdsburg at WINElove Weekend. From March 19-21 winemakers will open their patios for a unique opportunity to taste what’s new and exciting at the vineyards. WineLove tickets, which will cover all three days, are on sale now. This year’s tastings will be more intimate, so book your individual winery reservations as soon as you purchase your ticket.
Whether you set up a sumptuous weekend package at the newly opened Montage Healdsburg or select a favorite room from a familiar cozy inn beside the Russian River, the opportunity to disappear in Sonoma wine country’s bucolic village for a few nights should not be missed. Visit the stayhealdsburg.com website to start planning your well-deserved spring escape.

As much as we’ve come to cherish these breaks, we could all use a true vacation, ending a day filled with winery visits, a hike, or a bike ride with dinner on the patio at an intimate restaurant. If such a fun day sounds like pure fantasy at the moment, you haven’t visited Healdsburg in a while.

Of all our favorite leisure activities that have shifted outside over the past year, wine tasting may have made the easiest transitions. Most of the scores of tasting rooms surrounding Healdsburg already contained a well-appointed patio. You'll certainly find exceptional cabs, chardonnays, and merlots here, but there are as many as 75 different grape varieties to enjoy as well. Remember to make reservations before you arrive.
With several tasting rooms, restaurants, and boutiques galore keeping the car parked for a day on foot around Healdsburg makes perfect sense. From book browsing to artwork to artisan woodworking, gallery hopping is a must here, as is selecting something new to wear come evening from the many boutiques. Remember to pause to pick up a warm croissant and tartine from the Quail & Condor or Costeaux bakeries, or a made-to-order sandwich from the Journeyman Meat Co.

In the past year, many of us have made WFH – work from home – the new normal. WFH could just as easily mean "Work from Healdsburg," taking advantage of midweek rates and setting up a workday with breaks to paddle down the Russian River, cycle through Alexander Valley, or browse a few artisan shops that have reopened for limited in-person shopping.
The Harmon Guest House makes the work/stay equation easy to compute with its Altwork special, use of the Altwork Station, including a 32-inch monitor, for guests who book three or more nights in a Founder’s Suite. Hotel Trio is also taking the WF-Healdsburg to another level, as guests receive a Work Pass that includes a work station, Keurig coffee machine and full kitchen, among other amenities. Pool break anyone?
