Baldwin, Michigan is probably best known for hosting a yearly event known as the “Blessing of the Bikes” a family-friendly event that typically occurs the third Sunday in May each year, as it has since 1972. This year, a new event will join the motorcycles in town that weekend, and this one has a decidedly adult theme.
Fresh Water Cannabis Company is lending their own twist to the Blessing of the Bikes festivities this year with a new festival they are hosting right behind their provisioning store, the Wanderlust Festival. The event, which will happen on May 14, 2022, will feature live music, food trucks, a beer tent, and of course, a cannabis vendor tent.
“We are picturing it to be like this big community event, and we want it to become an annual event,” said Erica Eschenburg, Brand Manager for Fresh Water Cannabis Company. “We want to draw people to Baldwin, to support our local businesses.”
The Blessing of the Bikes weekend is the biggest event that Baldwin holds every year, and certainly draws in the crowds. Growing from the original 4 bikes and 8 riders that attended the inaugural event, the Blessing now hosts upwards of 10,000 riders each year, who come from all over the Midwest to receive a blessing for a safe riding season.Care by Design, a leading CBD producer and distributor. The companies focus on providing the very best products “from innovative entrepreneurs to esteemed small businesses in Michigan” according to their website. The company was started in Farmington Hills, by Annette Compo and has locations in Sault Ste Marie, as well as Baldwin.

“We’re not from Baldwin, so we want to do as much as we can to support the local community that we are a part of,” said Eschenburg.
Headlining the event is musician Audrey Ray, who will be performing her new single “Sparks”. Ray describes her style as “country music with a touch of outlaw”. Joining her will be other live acts, plus multiple food trucks, cannabis vendors, a beer tent, activities like tie dying, and a cannabis consumption tent. “We are trying to hire local Michigan people for every aspect of the event,” said Eschenburg.
“The cannabis vendor tent is supposed to be a really big tent, with all kinds of cannabis gear and accessories that people can purchase,” said Eschenburg. “Of course, our store will be open, and we’ll be offering lots of sales and discounts. There will be lots of couches and chairs, we are trying to make it a chill space, where you can meet people. And you can bring food and drink into the tent.”
Fresh Water acquired a special operator license for the event, so that guests can buy, smoke or consume cannabis at their leisure during the festival.
A portion of the proceeds from the festival will be directed to the Fresh Water Foundation, which works to “support our Great Lakes and local waterways”.
This event is open to those who are 21 years and older, so please have your ID ready. This is an outdoor event, and will happen regardless of normal weather. Tickets are $25 for Early Bird if you buy by April 15, $30 for General Admission, and $50 for VIP. Feel free to grab your camp chair or a blanket to sit on, you can also bring in water and light snacks if you like.
