How many times has your schedule opened up or the weather suddenly changed, prompting you to call for a tee time only to learn the tee sheet is full? When you're itching to golf, putting practice or hitting the range feels like eating the cone and not the ice cream. The Lost City Golf Club was founded by golfers who expected to play when they wanted to play. Redesigned by Tom Fazio II in 2021, Lost City offers 27 holes to play with no tee times required. Arrive, put on your spikes, and head to the tee box of your choice. Of course, if you want to practice putting or hit the range at the new practice facility that’s your choice.
Located between West Palm Beach and Boca Raton, Lost City’s location says a lot about the club. Members describe themselves as “south of a blue blazer and north of flip flops,” a perfect image of the inclusive and fun private club. Lost City members share a common belief a private club should allow its members a place to unwind and relax, not button up and feel uptight. As they have for 50 years, Lost City golfers also care deeply about their game, from the challenges of playing a tough and diverse track to receiving expert instruction from PGA Director of Golf Mason Colling and
his staff.
Originally known as the Atlantis Country Club, Lost City has always focused on golf first and foremost, creating a classic south Florida layout that provides challenging yet fair play from six sets of tee boxes stretching from 5,008 to 6,883-yards in length. You won’t find a pool or polo grounds here, this is a golfer’s club. To mark the Golden Anniversary, the men’s locker room, practice facilities, and pro shop were completely renovated, in addition to a full reimagining of each of the 27 holes.
Tom Fazio II’s design updated the course significantly, without losing the character of three distinct nines that lead the golfer on an intriguing journey beside ivory white sand bunkers and azure-blue water hazards. The mature pine, oak, banyan, and palm trees were left in place to maintain Lost City’s distinctive legacy as a historic course of importance in Florida.
The golf focus is manifested in other ways as well. The state-of-the-art practice facilities provide access to improve every part of one’s game. The innovative short game area makes working on this facet, often ignored yet the key to scoring, forever entertaining. The practice greens were also reimagined to produce a variety of putting challenges, whether in preparation for that day’s fourball or a little putt-off contest for sunset beers on the clubhouse terrace. The two-sided 375-yard driving range now provides a movable canopy for 50% of the practice tees.
The social and competitive nature of golf is also on full display. Women golfers participate in a wide range of specific games, including 9 Holers, 9 Holer Social, and 18 Hole Ladies' outings every Tuesday. Men enjoy similar competitions including an all-day Skins Game every Wednesday. Friday features a Couples 9 & Dine, a favorite event for new and longstanding members alike. TGIF begins with a shotgun start at 3 pm, followed by drinks and dinner. More than 140 members often participate in this welcoming and festive start to the weekend.

COURSE IMPROVEMENTS
Mason and his crew keep things interesting with a variety of tournaments throughout the year as well. Many, like the women’s and men’s member-guest and member-member, are familiar to anyone who has enjoyed the privilege of playing at an accredited private golf course. Lost City’s annual Ryder Cup format is a little different, however. Whereas most clubs host Ryder Cup formats in configuration-only, the Ryder Cup here pits Americans against the many Canadian members for a year’s worth of bragging rights, eh.
As always, 2022 will offer members opportunities in addition to playing the new Fazio II 27, the course having reopened on November 1, 2021. The partnership with the Four Seasons has expanded for new members, including exclusive access to the 5-Star resort’s private beach, as well as spa and dining. The Palm Beach Yacht Club also invites Lost City members to dine at the revered destination, and to join for reduced rates.
The perks and pricing continue back at Lost City via several programs. Potential members are encouraged to take the club for a spin with 2-4 month trial memberships, no initiation fee required. This popular and rare chance to see if Lost City Golf Club is the place for you has led to more than 50% of individuals joining full time.
It comes as no surprise that Lost City Golf Club’s course and facility renovations, reputation as a fun, casual community of devoted golfers, and affordability have led to a surge in new membership applications. Prospective new members are encouraged to apply for Afternoon Memberships or the Afternoon Memberships Waitlist. This unique offering allows those waiting for full-time member status to still play and participate in club activities.
When you have 27 holes of championship golf at your disposal, you can afford to say ‘the more the merrier,’ be it with the ‘no tee-time required’ start to the round or by establishing an equally social and competitive foursome for years to come. Visit the Lost City Golf Club website to see what pure Florida golf can be.
