THE WALLY BAR
Anticipation, drama and illumination fill the entry breezeway that connects two symmetrical pavilions. The home was constructed in three stages -- the "main house", the "guest house" and finally, the grounds with a disappearing edge pool, plantings and gardens. Distinctive architectural features were used throughout. 12 foot ceilings accentuate the open floor plans in both pavilions while multiple banks of 8 foot French doors provide abundant light and seamless access to private garden areas, the rear terrace and approximately 60' by 8' pool that runs the length of the view veranda.
Construction of the "main house" was inspired with the acquisition of breathtaking 18th century doors, one of the many artistic focal points of the home. The exterior paint was blended by colorist, Tim Caton, to achieve the complex hues reminiscent of rural France. An "Old World" craftsmanship continues throughout the Modern home with copper-lined shutter doors, handsome egg-shaped bronze knobs, brass overlays, lovely art walls, circa 1920 fans from New Orleans, alternating oval and square transoms and two steel-surround fireplaces. Upholstered, studded double doors were created to ensure privacy in the large master suite.
In northern California's wine country, life is conducted largely outdoors and where living at Wolf Run begins. The walled courtyard includes an antique fountain and the expansive veranda features soaring overlooks over the Valley of the Moon and to the Bay. Sheltered by 30-year-old wisteria vines, the veranda is the perfect venue for alfresco dining, relaxing or entertaining.
This distinctive residence has been featured in three notable architectural books as an example of outstanding design:
A Good House is Never Done, John Wheatman
Sonoma Valley Style: At Home in California's Wine Country, Kathryn Masson
Weekend House, Penelope Rowlands
As a full-time residence or second home destination, this exquisite property is an ideal urban escape and opportunity to create a lifetime of memories. Privacy and serenity and a relaxing lifestyle, just five minutes from the village of Glen Ellen, top-flight restaurants and world-class wineries for which Sonoma Valley is beloved. About one hour from San Francisco.
Set on a private road amidst 32+/- acres of fruit and olive trees, mature oaks, madrone and manzanite groves, this luxurious Modern French home offers enticing vistas and a welcome rural respite. The warm exterior and periwinkle shutters contrasting with the verdant green setting recalls a Mediterranean retreat from a bygone era.
