Lumberjacks. Railroaders, Brewers (ok and Chemists too); Sturdy men with big beards and tough women who didn’t take any guff. That’s who built our state in the 1800s. We honor their legacy through fine brews made with ingenuity and plenty of elbow grease. So when you’ve closed down the sawmill for the night, grab what’ll satisfy you more than any other craft beer and make you feel good – damn good. Like warm flannel on the first day of winter or the wind at your back on the rail trail.

Back in 1933, Michigan became the first state to ratify the Twenty-first Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would repeal Prohibition. We don’t know about you, but we’re really proud of that fact. When the Amendment was adopted, Michigan was quickly on its way to becoming a hub for amazing beer. Dozens of breweries sprung up across the state, including Midland Brewing Company, which opened in 1935 inside an old creamery downtown.
Midland Brewing Company developed some signature beers – like Red Keg Ale, named after the first lumber camp and saloon in Midland County. But during the Great Depression, times were tough and competition was fierce. Even with its damn good beer, the brewery lasted only a few years.
Midland Brewing was Reborn in 2010: Our small posse of entrepreneurs are connecting our passion for brewing Michigan Craft Beer to Midland’s early history – especially its first 100 years, defined by the lumber, railroad and beer industries. We reopened Midland Brewing Company on North Saginaw Road near the three-mile marker of the Pere Marquette Rail Trail, not far from Averill, where the Red Keg Lumber Camp sat by the Tittabawassee River. Since then, we’ve worked to carry on the legacy of the original Midland Brewing Company – we even brought back Red Keg Ale – while innovating our own signature brews like Copper Harbor Ale and developing new selections all the time.
Stop by and grab a beer or refill your growler today at our Restaurant, or you can find our beer at your local watering hole or retailer. You can sit back and unwind with a great beer in hand in our outdoor beer garden during the warmer months throughout the year. Our goal is to be a regional destination for great beer, food and fun.
