inside distanced from their peers, staring at a screen and taking standardized tests. There’s no better remedy for the quarantine blues than sending your child to experience the tradition of summer camp.
Parenting experts around the world recommend sending children to summer camp for a variety of physical and mental health reasons. Outdoor activities and the chance to discover a new interest build confidence. The close-knit community of summer camp and the resulting culture of inclusivity helps children forge lifelong friendships. The unique setting, tucked away amongst the pines along the lakefront, allows for the opportunity to make lasting, rewarding memories. All of these experiences produce children who are more socially adjusted and likely to succeed.
For 93 years, thousands of kids have looked forward to a fun, exciting and memorable summer experience at Camp Robin Hood, the only New England summer camp that instills Midwestern values in kids from all over the country. After the unprecedented circumstances that have kept children inside and apart from their friends, this coming summer will be the most important Robin Hood camp season of their lives. For returning campers, it will be an opportunity to reunite with old friends in a safe, familiar environment. For first timers, they’ll finally discover what the tradition of Robin Hood is all about.
“The feeling of being at Camp Robin Hood is like a storybook,” says Assistant Director Michelle Brockman. “It’s what connects us who are here to the people who were here before: the same traditions, the same moments, the same friendships.”
Forming Friendships
"At Camp Robin Hood, the philosophy is very simple, every child needs a chance, every child needs to be in a safe environment and every child needs the opportunity to succeed."
A typical summer day in the Realm is better than one anywhere else — it’s the summer day our children deserve. There are all types of activities, for all types of campers — at Camp Robin Hood, there's something for everyone! After a nutritious breakfast of fruits, whole grains and lean proteins, all campers participate in healthy team-oriented competition. Camp Robin Hood believes teaching campers the rules and fundamentals of each sport while focusing on teamwork and sportsmanship is critical to the development of all children. At the same time, their specialty staff work hard to maintain the energy and fun factor Robin Hood is known for.
During group activity periods, campers have an opportunity to learn about the sport they are playing, practice drills and finish with a game against their peers. From basketball and soccer to tennis, horseback riding, riflery and more, regardless of skill level, every camper is immersed in a fun and nurturing environment. All group activities culminate in every kid’s highlight of the summer, the annual green and white color war.
Welcome to the Realm
A Day in the Life at Camp Robin Hood
Camp Robin Hood promotes the skills children need to compete in the modern workforce but don’t often get from their schooling. Defined by the nonprofit p21.org, 21st-century skills include the 3Cs: Critical Thinking & Problem Solving, Creativity & Innovation and Communication & Collaboration. These skills are vital to your children’s success yet woefully scarce in today’s classroom, which too often depends on standardized testing and ignores depth of knowledge skills.
Yet it’s precisely these skills — collaboration, creativity, initiative, leadership and responsibility — that companies are looking for in the workforce of tomorrow, skills that just so happen to be the exact ones taught at Robin Hood. Think of camp like a life skills multivitamin. In a world where parents battle for their children’s attention from video screens and schoolteachers focus on teaching for the tests, summer camp is a much-needed supplement. By providing a unique environment for learning the life skills parents and future employers yearn for our children to develop, Robin Hood is an opportunity your children can ill afford to miss.

The Lifelong Advantage of Attending Summer Camp
Founded in 1927, Camp Robin Hood has a legacy of providing campers from around the U.S. and beyond a truly transformative experience. While activities are vital to a child’s development, it’s the culture of the camp that sets Robin Hood apart.
Campers at Robin Hood know they’re experiencing something special from the moment they arrive. The first night at camp, Woody welcomes all the campers to the Realm and reminds them how lucky they are to have an opportunity like this. It is a privilege to attend CRH, one that bestows the camper with a sense of responsibility to give back.
This moment is as important as any other, says Woody, in developing the kind of camper on which the legacy of Robin Hood is built. At Camp Robin Hood, the staff is welcoming, and the kids are friendly. They’re looking to have fun and learn new skills. They want to explore nature with that new pal they made from across the country. Most of all, the kids want to belong. Robin Hood provides the campers with a shared space that belongs to them, one they can return to again and again.
This is what sets Camp Robin Hood apart. There’s a sense of legacy here reincarnated each and every summer. It’s promoted by CRH’s Midwestern cultural values of kindness, acceptance and community. Robin Hood is the camp you attend to meet the types of friends who will stand with you at your wedding. Friends made at Robin Hood support one another, laugh together, dance together, sing together, experience all the highs and lows of life together.

s life remains uncertain, tradition matters. Now more than ever, parents and children are seeking something tangible to look forward to, something to counterbalance the days they’ve been stuck
Why So Many Campers Return to Camp Robin Hood Year After Year
Michelle isn’t exaggerating. With its idyllic location nestled lakefront among the forests of New Hampshire, Camp Robin Hood draws kids back year after year. The tradition holds true even after camp has ended: 90% of Camp Robin Hood’s staff members have spent previous summers at the camp, 80% of them as campers. The joy of Camp Robin Hood is often handed down from one generation to the next. Parents who attended send their children because they want their kids to have the same life-changing experience they had when they were young.
“At Camp Robin Hood, the philosophy is very simple,” says Director Richard “Woody” Woodstein. “Every child needs a chance, every child needs to be in a safe environment and every child needs the opportunity to succeed.” Woody, Michelle, and the entire staff believe summer camp is the ultimate development tool for children. In the Realm of Camp Robin Hood, campers challenge themselves, go beyond their comfort zones and develop lifelong friendships and skills.
After group activities, campers have the rest of the day to participate in elective activities. The amazing White Mountains and Lake Ossipee set the backdrop for electives at Camp Robin Hood. A typical day includes lake or mountain trail adventures. In addition to swim instruction, children participate in a wide variety of aquatic activities, from water-skiing or wakeboarding behind one of Robin Hood’s four motorboats to exploring the lake on a sailboat or kayak.
Robin Hood is a summer camp where kids still camp. On mountain trails, Robin Hood’s experienced camp guides open campers’ eyes to the wonders of the outdoors. Campers climb mountains, adventure overnight in the woods, pitch tents, sit around a campfire and experience the majesty of the stars stamped in the New Hampshire night sky.
Fitness and the arts are important in the Realm. Campers have an opportunity to take spinning and yoga classes or lift weights under the supervision of their specialized instructors. Whether mountain biking the White Mountain trails or running the Freedom 5k, there’s always options for campers to stay in shape. Creatively, Robin Hood campers can choose between non-traditional arts and crafts programs, like candle-making, pillow-making and woodworking, and more traditional activities like painting, tie-dyeing and bracelet making. Thespians rejoice at the chance to perform at Robin Hood’s fully equipped 500-seat playhouse.
The Camp Robin Hood Difference
Camp Robin Hood knows the tradition of summer camp is facing challenges. “It’s an uncertain time for everyone,” says Woody, “and as parents, we all want to protect our children’s physical and mental health. With two young children and a college student at home now, I know juggling virtual schoolwork plus explaining why they can’t be with friends is emotionally draining. To that end, it is always helpful to have something for kids to look forward to.”
Looking ahead, all signs point to this summer being a crucial time for children to recover some of what they’ve lost and gain the lasting memories, strong friendships and life skills summer camp provides. Sending your child to Camp Robin Hood guarantees they’ll have a truly amazing summer. We’d call it a once-in-a-lifetime event if it weren’t for the fact that most kids keep coming back. Children aged 6 to 16 spend seven glorious weeks at Robin Hood and come home changed. See what life is like at Camp Robin Hood and learn more about the only camp in New England that instills Midwestern values in kids from all over the country.
