For nearly 25 years, dining at your local restaurant on one day of the year has been a way to support people living with and at risk for HIV. This spring, the annual tradition, Dining Out For Life San Francisco, continues strong. The event is held in cities throughout the United States and Canada to benefit local AIDS service organizations. In San Francisco, the event’s beneficiary is San Francisco AIDS Foundation and supports the organization’s mission of health promotion, wellness, and social justice for communities most impacted by HIV.
On April 25, dine out at a participating restaurant, and at least 25% of your bill will be donated to the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Enjoy delicious cuisine from restaurants like Fluid Cooperative, a cafe centering the trans, nonbinary, gender-nonconforming, and queer communities. There’s also Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria in the Marina neighborhood, which dishes up mouth-watering New York-style pizza, homemade pasta, fresh salad, flame-roasted chicken, and more. And Kahnfections, a bakery cafe in the Mission, serves freshly baked French pastries, desserts, and other tasty treats. All three of these restaurants have committed to donating 100% of the day’s proceeds to SFAF.

SFAF also enlists volunteers who pair up with local restaurants to collect donations online and spread the word about the fundraiser. Emer Braddock is a Dining Out For Life committee member and has served as a restaurant ambassador for 13 years. Each year, she encourages friends and family to meet her at a participating restaurant. Braddock says there’s always great energy on this special night:
“It is wonderful to see everyone get together, indulge in a great meal, and enjoy each other’s company, all while supporting this impactful organization. It makes me feel proud to know that the contributions from this event directly impact the health of our community.”
Braddock calls it “incredibly meaningful” to see restaurants continue to partner with San Francisco AIDS Foundation year after year, especially while recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic:
“I think what keeps the restaurants coming back to participate is that the event is a win-win for everyone—the restaurants enjoying patrons coming in to support the event and the San Francisco AIDS Foundation benefiting from the event proceeds. Ultimately, it is our local community here in San Francisco that benefits the most.”
