Scottie Scheffler never forgot the days he spent on the golf course with James Ragan. While James Ragan would go on to be named a Special Ambassador for M.D. Anderson, and with his sister Mecklin founded the Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation, Scottie would go on to marry his childhood sweetheart, Meredith, have his first child, Bennett, and become the number one golfer in the world, winning tournaments at a blistering pace including two Masters Tournaments. But always the grounded young man who understood that golf was just a game, Scottie never forgot his friends James and Mecklin. While James passed away from pediatric bone cancer in 2014, Triumph Over Kid Cancer (TOKC) carried on in pursuit of James’ dream that pediatric cancer would stop with him.

Unwanted hair growth is something many of us deal with. The days of stubborn shaving, razor bumps, and ingrown hairs are over thanks to laser hair removal, a simple treatment that will save you time, money, and stress when it comes to hair growth. Laser hair removal is a convenient and fast treatment (averaging around 30 minutes per session) that utilizes a concentrated beam of light laser to remove hair and inhibit future hair growth in the area. The treatment is largely pain-free; however, clients will need to keep the treated area(s) out of the sun for a week following treatment.

Laser Hair Removal
Botox and Fillers
Botox and fillers are a fantastic option for those looking to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines or add some plump to your lips. Using a very thin needle, medical professionals administer the treatment into the desired areas of the face. Typically, injectables and dermal fillers involve minimal discomfort, and most clients can return to their day-to-day responsibilities immediately after treatment. In all stages of your beauty journey, your aesthetic consultant can detail each offering including effective wrinkle relaxers like Botox , FDA-approved lip fillers, and more to ensure your choice aligns best with your goals.
Ultherapy
Usually starting around age 25 when our bodies begin to produce less collagen, we notice changes, or sagging, in our skin. Ultherapy skin lifting is the FDA- cleared solution you need to build that collagen bank back up to restore plump, tight and youthful looking skin. Ultherapy uses safe ultrasound energy to naturally initiate the production of new collagen deep within your skin. You’ll see skin tightening results after the first treatment and continued improvement for up to six months. The team of trusted advisors can put together a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs, setting you up for your perfect skin.
IPL Photofacial
IPL Photofacial uses pulses of light energy to fade age spots, sunspots and freckles, while evening out skin tone, redness and hyperpigmentation. This FDA-approved treatment targets and gently heats the red and brown areas of your skin impacted by sun damage, ultimately causing them to flake off and unveil clearer, brighter skin for a makeup look without the makeup. For those interested in anti-aging results for your skin, IPL Photofacial provides a quick, effective, and affordable method to achieve radiant looking skin.
CoolSculpting
We’re all on a journey toward looking and feeling our best. Many people, however, wrestle with stubborn fat even after exhausting all efforts to work it out. Enter CoolSculpting , a noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment that utilizes patented, controlled cooling technology to eliminate up to 25% of fat cells in the desired area without the need for surgery. CoolSculpting targets problem areas beneath the skin to freeze, kill and ultimately destroy only the fat cells from the body, producing lasting results that you will love. After just two sessions, clients will see a 73% greater fat reduction versus just one treatment.
CoolTone
It’s like 20,000 sit ups in 30 minutes. The abdomen, buttocks and thighs can be targeted with CoolTone treatments that produce tighter and firmer results that will last. Under a process called magnetic muscle stimulation (MMS) initiated by CoolTone technology, muscles undergo involuntary contractions, therefore strengthening the muscles within the treatment area. This process feels similar to that of an odd muscle spasm or twitch, however for the large majority of patients it is not at all painful. Results are typically noticeable after four weeks of treatment. CoolTone is FDA-cleared and backed by science, designed for anyone looking to become more toned without any recovery time.

Through it all, James’ legacy continues to inspire the incredible work that TOKC does. In fact his sister Mecklin is a doctor now in her 4th year of surgical residency, with the goal of going on to a pediatric fellowship to become a pediatric cancer surgeon. “At the end of his life James was so worried he would be forgotten, and all of this would be for nothing,” Mecklin says. “To see what it is today, seventeen years after it started and ten years after he’s gone, is pretty amazing.” To learn more about TOKC and their gala, fundraising, and research, or to volunteer, visit their website. On Amazon Prime, you can also watch the documentary, “Until 20” about James’ life and work.

For any parent, the prospect of their child being diagnosed with cancer is unimaginable. Fortunately, for families facing this unthinkable reality, there is hope and immense strength in knowing that you are not alone. At Triumph Over Kid Cancer Foundation, a community of passionate advocates has come together to raise awareness and funds for pediatric cancer and the medical advances that have the potential to save lives. They always remember James’ comment when he spoke at the M.D. Anderson Living Legend Luncheon with Jim Nantz and Jack Nicklaus and at CPRIT. James said,

Through agreements with M.D. Anderson and Texas Children’s all research funds are matched by the respective institutions. Additionally, TOKC operates multiple pediatric cancer outreach programs. They run the DoThatOneThing! School program which has over 1000 members and operates in 17 schools in the Gulf Coast from Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Austin, Houston to New Orleans. The students plan and conduct activities that bring joy to kids with cancer like presents and tiny decorated Christmas trees to take to the hospital rooms at Christmas, with similar events at other holidays including a thanksgiving dinner for the families of kids with cancer. These events not only help bring joy to the children and their families, but also help the students appreciate the gifts of life and health and help them understand the importance of doing things to help others in a worse situation than you.
The Foundation also runs its Rally for Kids Program. It was started during Covid to help families dealing with pediatric cancer who were having severe needs. After Covid, it was apparent that many of those problems transcended covid. There are families who would have to live in their car after traveling to Houston for treatment because they could not afford hotel rooms, families that could not afford transportation to get to medical appointments and a nearly infinite list of other difficulties. Consequently, the program has carried on after covid. Also, because golf became such an important part of James’ life after he was diagnosed, going on to play for Rice University for 2 years before passing away, they started the Scotties Heroes programs with a donation from the Scheffler’s. The program allows them to provide golf equipment to children with cancer who have an interest in finding the same things in golf that James found – competition, friendship, and an opportunity to pursue excellence even while fighting cancer.
“And I suppose none of you have looked into the face of a doctor who has cared for you since you were a kid who wants nothing more than to save your life and instead has to tell you that you have no more options and you need to go enjoy the rest of the life you have left. If you could look into the face of that doctor and see that sadness and despair, then you would fund pediatric cancer research and help those doctors.
I want you to remember my face. Because my face is the face of every kid that dies from a pediatric cancer that isn't profitable to cure. My face is the face of every kid that dies because the drugs don't have "a rigorous business plan demonstrating demand and self-sustainability.
And every day you ignore a cancer like pediatric cancer, you cost this country the energy and leadership of thousands of kids just like me with infinite potential to secure the future of our Country.”
On October 25th, 2024, Scottie will be in Houston for TOKC’s Scottie & Friends event to raise funds to aid TOKC in its work. TOKC has previously raised over 5.8 million dollars for pediatric cancer research, funding programs at M.D. Anderson like the Children’s Sarcoma Initiative to finance research into new ideas for pediatric sarcoma treatments, the Genomic Research and Sequencing Project (which at the time was the only longitudinal whole genome sequencing project for pediatric cancers), a Phase 2 drug trial that arose from research funded in the Sarcoma Initiative and research at Texas Children’s to help make immunotherapy treatments effective on solid tumors.
