What’s in a name? If you’re the Tornabene family, a lot. As immigrants fleeing violence in Palermo, Sicily to one of the most exclusive names in wine, being a Tornabene has never been dull. Tornabene is more than a family name — it’s a legacy.
No one understands this better than Italia Tornabene, founder of Tornabene Wine. Italia is carrying on the family legacy of self-determination in a fresh way, producing luxurious small-batch wines for those who sip outside the lines.
The story of Tornabene Wine is one of resilience, ingenuity, and a deep love for vino, Italia explains. As a bestselling author, single mother, and successful entrepreneur who has built several businesses from the ground up, Italia started Tornabene Wine after battling acid reflux and realizing traditional wines caused discomfort.

Tornabene: More than Wine
“Following a medical procedure, I found myself unable to enjoy traditional wines due to their acidity,” Italia says. “Instead of giving up on something I loved, I began exploring ways to create a low-acid wine that would be gentler on the stomach without sacrificing quality or flavor.”
Italia and her top-tier winery partners discovered that lower acidity could be achieved through careful grape selection and innovative fermentation techniques. The result was transformative not only for Italia herself but also for wine drinkers worldwide. Tornabene Wines are low in acidity without compromising the sophistication wine lovers expect from small-batch producers.

The label’s first limited release, the 2022 Tornabene California Cabernet Sauvignon, turned heads at the 2025 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, securing a Silver Award for its balanced nose of dark cherry, blackberry, subtle cocoa, and hints of vanilla. Velvety and smooth, this is the Cabernet Sauvignon that allows others with acidic sensitivity to savor a glass of one life’s finer pleasures without discomfort.
Italia followed the success of Tornabene’s flagship wine with the 2022 Tornabene Chardonnay, which also boasts low acidity and no sugar. Designed for all-day sipping, this balanced and buttery Chardonnay is lightly oaked for a crisp, refreshing finish. It pairs well with pastas and seafood, leading to another Silver Award in this year’s wine competition.
Perhaps Tornabene’s most captivating creation, however, is the 2022 Mimosa Magic Sparkling Wine. This unique interpretation on sparkling wine earned Tornabene Wine yet another Silver Award this year. Designed as a low-calorie, low-sugar indulgence, this sparkling wine — which has the zest of an orange and of a grapefruit – is essentially a ready-to-drink mimosa with a higher ABV than the classic brunch cocktail. With no mixing required, you can show up to any fine daytime soirée with a bottle of Mimosa Magic and be ready to celebrate.
