Metropolitan
College
Metropolitan College (or Metro College) is not a brick and mortar college. Instead, it is a partnership between the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the city of Louisville, UPS, The University of Louisville and Jefferson Community and Technical College.
Metropolitan College was instituted in 1998 as a critical element of the incentive package that convinced UPS to remain in KY and to expand its major overnight hub, Worldport. This uniquely innovative education program offers access to post-secondary education opportunities for eligible employees in the Next Day Air (Night shift) operation at Worldport.
Participating students attending at least part-time, and passing their classes with a C-grade or better, get their tuition paid to The University of Louisville or Jefferson Community & Technical College as well as fee payment assistance, academic bonuses, and other benefits.
To fulfill the program’s mission of assisting students to integrate their academic, work and personal lives, Metropolitan College has a team of Student Development Counselors who assist students with a wide array of support services designed to enhance student success in the workplace, in the classroom, and in their future careers.
Our #whatsyournumber campaign shows just how much money a student has saved by utilizing these benefits.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with our Metro College Program for over 18 years. This program has removed the financial barrier for students to attend college and obtain their degrees. It is very exciting to see our student employees reach their academic and career goals. The Metro College Program provides our students with educational opportunities and essential work skills that will enable them to be successful in the future.
UPS has invested over $117,000,000 in tuition assistance for MC students
More than 22,000 students have utilized MC benefits
Over 13k certificates, associate, bachelor and graduate degrees earned
How it Works
program requirements
Must be actively working as Next Day Air part-time hub, ramp or freight employee in Worldport operations (Shifts start between 9 pm and 4 am.)
However, to utilize MC benefits at the University of Louisville (UofL), If you have less than 60 transferable college credit hours or have not earned an associate degree, you must meet one of the following requirements to participate in the UofL MC program:
MC strictly adheres to these requirements, so no rounding up! If you do not meet the MC UofL eligibility requirements, you can either attend Jefferson Community and Technical College (JCTC) to participate in the MC program or take advantage of the UPS Earn and Learn program until you reach the 60 transferable hours or have obtained an associate degree.
*Beginning fall 2020, MC will consider a first-time MC student's ACT Superscore of 21 or higher or the SAT Superscore equivalent of 1060, if the minimum 21 ACT or 1060 SAT composite score is not met.
The ACT Superscore is the average of the student's highest Math, Science Reasoning, Reading, and English section scores. The SAT Superscore is the sum of the student's highest Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing scores.
**Students must be eligible to complete the FAFSA in order to participate in Metro College. If you are unable to complete the FAFSA, or otherwise fail to meet all program requirements necessary to participate in Metro College, please check out our
UPS Earn & Learn Program page to learn more about how you can still receive tuition assistance working for us!
