Everything You Need for the Ultimate Vision Board
Creating a vision board is one of our all-time favorite activities. In case you’re new to vision boards, they’re essentially a visual representation of your goals, visions, values, and all that you hope to accomplish in the future, whether personal, professional, or creative!
We’re here to help you make a vision board of your own with items you might already have. If you’re in the mood to get crafty and want to create the ultimate vision board, here are some essential items to get started:
How Her Campus Editors Refresh
Their Afternoons
If there’s anything we’ve learned from working and taking classes from home, it’s that the afternoon slump is real. We asked editors at Her Campus Media what they do to stay refreshed and uplifted during a long workday and how they get through their afternoons.
”I feel like my afternoon slumps have hit harder this past year because of the isolation of working from home, so my most effective method for getting through it is phoning a friend! Just 15 minutes on a call with my best friend as we both take a break for lunch can reset my brain to get through the rest of the day.
Whether we’re catching up on gossip, discussing what show we should start next, or even venting about how much we both have to get done, by the time I get off the phone, I’m ready to get back to work and finish the day strong!”

“My favorite way to beat the afternoon slump is by stepping away from my desk and taking a break from screen time. I also love taking a 10-minute stretch break and moving my body a bit, which feels awesome, especially after sitting at my desk all day.
Finally, I love grabbing something refreshing like Coke® With Coffee (the vanilla one is my favorite!) and listening to an uplifting playlist before getting back
to work.”

“The best way for me to beat my afternoon slump is to take some time for myself—could be anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes—and give my brain a moment to regroup.
I will sit and do a big braindump in my notebook of all of the things I need to get done before the end of the day, treat myself to a Coke® with Coffee, and just try to take a break. I find I’m much more refreshed during the day when I have my mini-break to look forward to.”

“Closing in on a year working from home, sometimes my whole day can feel like a big slump, so I make sure to get up and take a couple of laps around my apartment every hour or so. Sometimes it’s just a little aimless wandering to stretch my legs and take my focus away from my screen for a couple of minutes, sometimes I grab a snack or refill my water, and sometimes I move to another place where I haven’t been working that day to get a little separation (like from the couch to my desk, or vice versa) and take a social media break.”

"Especially now that we’re working from home, the afternoon slump hits hard. At around 1 pm every afternoon (meetings and weather permitting!), I go for a 15-minute walk. Stretching my legs and getting a change of scenery reinvigorates me for a busy afternoon ahead.
I’ll often listen to part of an inspiring podcast or audiobook to give my mind a quick break. When I get back to my apartment, I grab a Coke® with Coffee from my fridge and am ready to take on the second half of my workday."

Poster Board
First thing’s first: find some fun poster board, cardstock, or scrapbook paper where you can attach your favorite images and words. This will be the basis for your ultimate vision board!
Nostalgic Memorabilia
Remember those dreamy pics from study abroad or ticket stubs from past concerts? Now is the perfect time to take a trip down memory lane and include them on your next vision board. From airline tickets to snail mail, handwritten postcards, and everything in between, nothing makes a vision board more special than adding some real memories.
Scissors
These are a *must*. Grab your magazine stack and start cutting out images, words, or colors that inspire you.
Paper Cutouts
or Printouts
From magazine cutouts to colorful fabrics, try incorporating new materials into your vision board.
Coke® with Coffee
TBH, virtual vision board parties are my new favorite thing! Seriously, call your friends, grab your favorite refreshments (my current obsession: Coke® with Coffee) and make it a group experience. We promise your friends will ask you to plan all of the future hangouts.
Notebook or Journal
Time to put your extra notebook and journals to good use. Simply find one with enough space and pages to fill with your creations and attach or write what you’re excited about. When you're done with your notebook-style vision board, you’ll always have some inspo to look back on!
Stickers
From scented to 3D, the possibilities are endless when it comes to fun stickers. Show some personality on your vision board and use as many as you want!
Psst: they can also double as adhesive if you’re running low.
Glitter Pens & Markers
Let’s be real, colorful markers and glitter pens have always been more fun than your standard pencil and pen. Break out your favorite permanent markers, highlighters, colored pencils — or even paint if you’re feeling brave — to add extra pizzazz to your vision board.
Glue Stick or Tape
Once you’ve gathered all of your supplies, make sure to have some glue or tape on hand to arrange and finalize your creations!
