Channeling her determination, ambition, and ability to overcome adversity.
“What makes me imPRESSive is my determination, ambition, and ability to overcome adversity,” says Ariana,a first-generation Puerto Rican American college student studying Criminology, Sociology, and Psychology at FSU.These qualities have helped her excel in her studies while balancing difficult coursework, participating in on-campus organizations, and working two jobs — and she does it all with empathy, kindness, and grace. “You are only as beautiful as the condition of your heart,” she says. It’s a sentiment her late grandmother, a beautician, instilled in her from a young age. “She taught me how to look beautiful outwardly, [and] she also taught me how to be beautiful internally.”

Beyond her academic achievements, Mahogani’spassion and perseverance are what make her imPRESSive.Whether she’s excelling in her coursework, participating in extracurricular activities, volunteering, or leading her peersas the Freshman Class Vice President, Mahogani believes in approaching opportunities for growth with resilience and determination. She credits her lineage as an African American woman with not only inspiring her power and perseverance but also empowering her inner and outer beauty. “I choose to express my beauty both inside and out by embracing my history, cultivating self-love, inspiring others, [and] recognizing the richness of African American culture [while] embracing the strength of our collective spirit.”

As a Sociology student committed to helpingunder-resourced individuals, Caroline understands the importance of taking action within her community. This past year, she worked with an on-campus organization to create “menstruation stations” at her school where students could go to access free feminine care products. The project, which had a major impact on her campus, encouraged others to take action, too — and it’s just one example of Caroline’s imPRESSive leadership skills. Beyond serving her community, Caroline isalso committed to spreading kindness wherever she goes.“I express my beauty by being kind to myself and others,”she says. “Being kind to both ourselves and our minds is theultimate key to unlocking self-love.”
When Karimah relocated to the U.S. from Nigeria at 10years old, she faced the challenge of adjusting to a new environment with determination and pride for her heritage. Today, she draws inspiration from her childhood experiencesas she navigates life as an aspiring software engineer.Whether she’s excelling in school, mentoring young Nigerian girls interested in STEM, or working on her side hustle doing hair for peers in her dorm room, her goal is to cultivate kindness and respect for everyone she meets. “My parents taught me from a young age that honey catches more flies than vinegar,” she says. “[It] was their way of explaining that beauty extends far beyond our physical appearance.”
Katelyn credits her imPRESSive drive to succeed and dedication to community service to her immigrant parents. She channels their resilience and determination throughout everything she does, whether she’s striving for academic excellence, exploring her diverse interests, or giving back to her community. And while she’s working to show up for others, she makes sure to show up for herself through self-care and self-love. “I'm not only taking care of my physical appearance but also cultivating inner beauty in the form of peace, resilience, and a positive mindset,” she says. “It's about more than just aesthetics; it's a testament to the love and respect I have for myself and my ability to extend that love to others.”
