Carbon markets capabilities
We have extensive experience advising on compliance carbon markets, particularly the EU ETS and UK ETS. Our work in this space has ranged from providing compliance advice to individual participants, supporting companies interested in trading allowances, and offering strategic guidance on the expansion of the EU and UK ETS to new sectors, or the implementation of Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM). For example, we advised National Grid on the legal mechanics and practical implementation of a link between the EU and UK ETS. Our understanding of the relevant legislation enabled us to identify key legal issues, navigate political considerations, and support the client's strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders.
We have advised on and drafted a range of bespoke agreements in relation to voluntary carbon markets projects, including project development, long-term offtake arrangements and brokerage agreements. Our extensive transactional experience, combined with deep knowledge of voluntary carbon markets, enables us to deliver tailored commercial advice to clients investing in, developing, or participating in such projects.
We assist public and private clients in drafting legislation for both mandatory and voluntary carbon markets.
