The UK Government is currently running a tender process for the delivery of a fleet of next-generation nuclear reactors. As of October 2024, the government had concluded the first tender phase and whittled down six prospective companies to four: E-Hitachi Nuclear Energy International, Holtec Britain, Rolls-Royce SMR, and Westinghouse Electric Company UK. The competition forms part of the UK's strategy to deliver a quarter of the country's electricity through nuclear power by 2050.
