The UK Labour Government has suggested a right to disconnect could feature within its first Employment Bill, having been a Labour policy since 2021.
Employment legislation will shortly provide Australian employees with the right to refuse to monitor, read or respond to contact (or attempted contact) from their employer or third parties, such as investors, outside their work hours, unless it’s unreasonable to do so.
The right to disconnect has been in place in France since 1 January 2017. It provides certain rights for employees on "forfait jours" working time arrangements to benefit from mandatory daily and weekly rest periods by formalising a right not to be constantly contactable on electronic devices.
