Using our voice
Our attorneys and business professionals are highly skilled in what they do. We use our skillsets to do good in the world. In 2020, Husch Blackwell drafted and filed an amicus brief supporting protections found in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 extending to discrimination based on sexual orientation and transgender status.
Justice for all
These are not just words to us. Lifting the less fortunate and bridging gaps in our communities through pro bono service is a cornerstone of Husch Blackwell’s culture. Through thousands of hours of free legal services, we strive to improve the lives of disadvantaged and under-represented people.

HB Communities for Change
Through HB Communities for Change, we actively pursue opportunities to use our resources and talents to promote equity, inclusion and justice – continuing and expanding on our pro bono commitments, exploring new relationships with organizations that are on the front lines, partnering with our clients and community members, and financially supporting initiatives that seek to end racial inequality in America.

Employee Resource Groups
We maintain eight employee resource groups (ERGs), including HB B.L.A.C.K. (Black Leaders Advancing Careers and Knowledge), a group by and for our Black attorneys and business professionals. Our ERGs are spaces for people with like identities to come together, celebrate each other, and focus on their continued growth. These groups are also excellent resources for the business in enhancing policies and practices, and developing new relationships with clients.

At Husch Blackwell, our clients are everything. Our mission is to distinguish ourselves in the quality of service we provide to our clients and the care we show our colleagues.
Our Work
We cannot expect to achieve a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment without knowing who we are today. Our firm continuously reviews and enhances what we know about our own demographics, how work is assigned, and how we can further support our highly talented colleagues. From our DE&I Data Analysts to our Executive Board and Senior Leadership Team, we are committed to strategic, data-driven operations.
Continuous
Growth
data
There is a wealth of opportunities available to our attorneys and business professionals. We focus on finding the ones that matter most. Throughout the year, we send cohorts powerful persona and professional development events, including Charting Your Own Course and Corporate Council Women of Color.
Professional Development
With more than 900 attorneys and 1,000 business professionals in our firm, chances are you will find someone who inspires you. We encourage our senior attorneys and business professionals to hold the door open for those coming up behind them, and we have both formal and informal approaches to support mentoring.
Mentoring and Sponsorship
In addition to our mentoring and sponsorship initiatives, we have a robust, tight-knit network of attorneys engaged in our Diversity Liaison Program. This homegrown program ensures that our attorneys who have underrepresented racial, ethnic, and/or LGBTQ+ identities have someone to talk to who understands who they are, what they experience in the world, and how they can best advocate for themselves at Husch Blackwell.

Diversity Liaison Program
We continuously look for opportunities to educate our attorneys and business professionals on emerging legal and business insights. For example, we hosted a CLE credit-approved training open to all colleagues on the increasing recognition of trans identities as protected under existing laws and codes of ethics.
Targeted CLE
We host events throughout the year for all of our attorneys and business professionals – especially our allies seeking to learn more about different identities and experiences. Our DE&I Speaker Series events have been an excellent way to learn about our clients and each other, often opening doors to better understand who we are beyond the work we do. Our “I am HB” workshop is a particularly powerful tool in helping us understand the many identity factors we all hold and seeing our colleagues holistically.
DE&I Speaker Series
Every two years, we bring our attorneys with underrepresented racial and/or LGBTQ+ identities together for a summit to focus in on their unique experiences. This retreat is an excellent opportunity to build connections beyond offices and strategic business units, and it allows us to directly practice equitable professional development.
