Hunter’s Latest “For The Outside World” Campaign Brings Together Global Creatives To Share Their Affinity For The Outdoors
Since being introduced in 1956, Hunter’s Original Wellington boot collection has become the brand’s staple footwear silhouette, serving as a lesson on how to withstand the test of time. As well as protecting your feet from all-terrain, the brand’s 160-year innovative history and relationship with exploration continues to connect people to the outdoors. HYPEBEAST caught up with four of the creatives from its latest campaign to discuss what the outdoors means to them and how it helps them tap into their creativity.

About
New York, uS
When not modeling for brands, Hella Tall can also be spotted around Harlem Meer finding his next big catch. As a self-taught fisherman who’s part of the fishing collective NYC Bass Kings, Hella uses his platform and fondness for nature to normalize young people’s presence in the outdoors.
WAS THERE A PARTICULAR MOMENT THAT INITIATED YOUR LOVE FOR NATURE?
I’ve always loved nature. I’d say the moment I decided to take fishing seriously is when I started to love and respect nature.
HOW HAS TIME IN NATURE HELPED YOUR CREATIVITY?
Being in nature helped me learn different skills, like fishing for instance. I was able to use my love for fishing to build a platform that shows how fun it is to be in nature.
Hella
Being in nature makes me feel relaxed. It helps me relieve the stress of living in a hectic city."

HOW DOES HUNTER’S ETHOS RESONATE WITH YOU?
I feel like me and Hunter share a lot of the same values. Hunter’s ethos to me is about going out and enjoying nature no matter who you are and whatever the weather.

WHY DOES THE ORIGINAL BOOT WORK FOR YOU WHEN YOU’RE OUT IN NATURE?
I live in Wales so you’ll be stretched to find a day when it’s not raining. The OG boot is perfect for me trotting through the wet woods and if I bump into anyone I still look good and feel myself. They’re also very easy to slip on and off and look great with PJs.
That connection to the outside world is fundamental to our happiness and survival. The more we can rewild our minds, go outside, be present, find and lose ourselves through nature, the better."
HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE THE HUNTER ORIGINALS BOOTS INTO YOUR STYLE?
Easy! I love latex, rubber and leather. I always juxtapose these textures with soft materials or sharp tailoring. The short boots are great because they’re minimal and graphic, iconic design, so they scream understated and quality.
WHAT LOCAL AREAS DO YOU LIKE TO VISIT AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO THERE TO UNWIND?
My husband would say “don’t blow up the spot”. [laughs] It’s funny how nature feels like a precious secret and we like to be there alone without others. That’s a big part of why I love it. It’s like a gallery: silent and peaceful. We usually go swimming in the river or foraging in the local woods. Something we both really like doing in the Forest of Dean is just park up and walk into the trees. No directions, no map, no agenda, just walk without any purpose or plan, wherever our curiosity takes us.

HOW DOES HUNTER’S ETHOS RESONATE WITH YOUR VALUES?
To me, the Hunter Boots are made for everyone, all generations included. When we shared the boots at the fridge, it was so beautiful to see the joy and excitement that was created around it. I mean, I'm all about fashion, style matters to me, so seeing the community getting their boots and start showing off on the streets was the most wonderful thing I’ve seen. The big smiles on kid's faces after trying them on and start running around is the most important.
The Original Boot works for me when I'm in nature because you can get as dirty as you want but you will always remain fashionable and comfy at all times [laughs]."
WHAT JOY DO YOU FIND IN NATURE?
What I share with nature is a feeling I don't need to share with anyone else. It's between nature and me. I'm happy with what it’s given me and how it makes me feel. Sometimes I need validation from others and what's beautiful with Mother Nature is that she will always validate you as you are. Period.
WAS THERE A PARTICULAR MOMENT THAT INITIATED YOUR LOVE FOR NATURE?
Skateboarding has played a huge part in opening my eyes to nature. My parents would send me to summer skate camp in Biarritz where we would take a road trip in nature and skate all the amazing spots in the basque country area. I was able to spend time in nature at a very young age which allowed me to keep it real, stay myself and be honest with my surroundings.
After witnessing the impact of the pandemic on her local area, skateboarder, videographer and documentarian Stéphanie Tonnoir teamed up with a group of friends to launch the 155 Street Fridge in West Harlem. Opening last year, the nonprofit hub offers fresh food and produce to help rebuild the community.

HOW DO YOU INCORPORATE THE HUNTER ORIGINALS BOOTS INTO YOUR STYLE?
They work super well under my kilts or massive, ruffly dress/skirt. Though to be fair, they work with pretty much anything!
HOW DO YOU SEE PEOPLE’S TIME IN NATURE CHANGING IN THE FUTURE?
People are really starting to reconnect and realize that nature is not just a pretty backdrop, it’s a part of us in every way. With the help of artists and environmental activists, people are starting to acknowledge nature as the foundation of all things. It's so great to see people taking action to protect it, as it literally is protecting and loving us! I hope that we all start spending time in nature more as a home of remedies, food, healing, creating, living and less as a superficial resource.
HOW HAS TIME IN NATURE HELPED YOUR CREATIVITY?
Nature is the foundation of all my work. I always make sure that trees have a prominent voice in my sound art. I like to listen to them and translate their words of wisdom into string music for my double bass or violin. Trees and their wonderful textures also make themselves present in my paintings and photographs. I can never grow bored.
London-based audio/visual artist, Damsel Elysium often utilizes their craft to spotlight the necessary relationship to be had with nature. Connecting with trees is the protagonist behind their work, complementing them with the use of string instruments such as the double bass and violin to build an engaging sonic world.
