This issue is full of weird and wonderful kinds of individualities, forged in pursuit of the unknown and the uncomfortable.
We visit the studio of designer Kiko Kostadinov in East London, one of the rare souls who is an unabashed individual through and through. Sheck Wes, on the cusp of releasing his debut album Mudboy, speaks to us about his past and what the word “mudboy” means. Guillermo Andrade speaks about his label 424 and what he hopes the label will continue to symbolize for LA culture and communities.
Bits of soul-searching end up getting documented in the 22nd installment of HYPEBEAST Magazine. People tell us about getting lost and ending up someplace they never imagined before. In chasing the almost ludicrously-vague idea of something called The Singularity Issue, we unknowingly began a similar journey, plowing headfirst into we-know-not-what (albeit promising) and having the results dispel our last surviving educated guesses. And if the names inside The Singularity Issue are any indication, we’re in good company.
HYPEBEAST Magazine Issue 22: The Singularity Issue has a cast who are all undeniably unique in their respective industries – looking beyond the work which makes them stand out and into the journeys which made them that way. We spent half our time searching for
one-of-a-kind work and individuals – and the other half admittedly not really knowing what we’re looking for. Luckily, good things can still come from the most clueless moments. This issue is full of weird and wonderful kinds of individualities, forged in pursuit of the unknown and the uncomfortable.
Hiroshi Fujiwara speaks to us about the influences of his youth, without which the current culture of high-end and streetwear collabs, such as his latest project with Moncler - along with humble establishments like yours truly - would not be what it is today. We have Blondey McCoy, who takes us into his grandparents’ home and talks about the growing pains of an old soul. This year’s LVMH Prize winner Masayuki Ino of doublet tells us about his inter-generational influences and the importance of being everywhere and nowhere for his label.
With collaborative packaging from Moncler and fragment design.
