STYLE HAS MADE THEOTIS BEASLEY an icon in skateboarding which transcended into him becoming renowned in the world of sneakers, fashion, music and art. As a skater, Beasley is known for his smooth and technical style – give him a gap, and he’ll effortlessly backside double heelflip over it with a huge smile on his face. Outside of skateboarding, the thirty-two-year old is known for his prolific fashion sense – he’s constantly seen rocking rare kicks alongside streetwear and high-luxe pieces. He’s even got his own lifestyle clothing brand called Grown and Gifted. However, for Beasley, developing style in skateboarding and fashion took time, but more importantly, staying prepared was key to his success.
At his home in Carson, California, the skater talked to ThE Magnum™ BRAND about his storied career, his prized mementos and the power of preparation.
Theotis Beasley’s journey into skateboarding started at 11-years-old when his cousin showed him what a kickflip was. Once he got a board of his own, the Inglewood-native stayed busy honing his skills, putting in countless hours to master tricks he could add to his arsenal. In the process, Beasely grew to love skateboarding, and that love came from an authentic place. “In West Hyde Park, Inglewood, I was always skating and practicing at Rogers Skate Park,” Beasley reminisces. “Then things took off the way they did and everything I did was because I loved it. Skateboarding is hard at first but when you do it for passion, and people see that you’re genuine, it’s gonna take off.” There’s also a saying that, “luck is when preparation meets opportunity,” and the phrase couldn’t have been more true than when Beasley turned pro at age 20. The moment was a reflection of the hard work and preparation he put in day in and day out to become an elite professional.
Preparedness leads to confidence which means having a handle on the future.
Beasley's brand Grown and Gifted also puts him in the position of designer. He has a T-shirt and a logo trucker hat from the brand's earlier releases as keepsakes. "I prepare a collection by gaining inspiration from the past," Beasley explained. "I watch old skate videos and I see how other generations were wearing things compared to now. I mix it up to make it my own and it's like preparing to do a trick. I ain't gonna try if I know I can't do it so I'm not to kill myself. For the brand, things have to be sure, comfortable and confident." Beasley is gearing up for the second collection from his brand and he's learned a lot of lessons from the first release which has prepared him for a smaller, higher quality drop in the coming future.

Beasley is known for his infectiously positive persona which stems from that mix of preparation and confidence. Some label him, "the nicest person in skateboarding" and he's even forged longtime friendships with artists like YG, Lil Wayne and more. He even had the chance to meet the late Nipsey Hussle a few times, whom he admires and has a canvas artwork of the iconic rapper at his home. Music has been a big influence on Beasley and he blew up on the skate scene at a time when hip-hop and skating were taking its relationship to new heights. His friendship with Lil Wayne also meant influencing a new generation of skaters from communities that may not have exposure to the sport. Beasley continues to advocate for diversity in skateboarding culture to this day. It's comparable to how his hero Nipsey Hussle galvanized his community beyond music and through financial opportunities.
The next chapter for Theotis Beasley is something he's keeping close to his chest but it has something to do with music and his hometown community in Inglewood. Whatever it is, we already know Beasley's approach to bringing it to life will include both preparation and confidence.

Hooper. Actor. Artist.
JarretT Ellis is a young multihyphenate making his mark in entertainment & art.
As an actor, he played legendary rapper Snoop Dogg in the Tupac biopic All Eyez on Me and is currently the lead character in the basketball-inspired series, Baseline. The stars have truly aligned for the twenty-eight year old who grew up inspired by music, movies and basketball.
When he’s not acting, however, Ellis runs Hoop Dream Studios, a brand he founded that creates custom basketball hoops that are also art pieces. Some of the brand’s biggest clients include rappers comedians, R&B stars and more. It took Ellis a number of bold moves to get Hoop Dream Studios to where it is now, yet he knows that there’s still room for growth, both as creator and company owner. While at his home studio, Ellis let the Magnum™ Brand inside his space to talk about his creative routine, some works of art that have defined him and how owning his boldness led him to launch a basketball-inspired art company from the ground up, accepting no substitutes along the way.
After walking away from college ball, Ellis used his time in art class to make a miniature basketball hoop for a project. “It was a found art project and we had to find stuff to make something,” Ellis said about the art assignment. “I knew I wanted to keep my hoop dream alive and I just worked on it. I wanted it to be like the crossover of fashion and luxury and wanted to create something that was both luxury and basketball.” This is where it all began for Ellis and he made the bold decision to start Hoop Dream Studio to keep his passion for basketball alive in a more creative form.
In Ellis’ home studio stands a blue basketball hoop that’s about three-and-a-half feet high. It symbolizes a lot of things for the young Californian, but mostly, it’s a reminder of how basketball has always been a driving force in his life. The hoop itself was inspired by his own experiences in life and hip-hop. The entire hoop is royal blue and features a chrome cuban chain link net and a backboard upholstered in a paisley blue bandana pattern. This is just one of the styles Ellis is capable of creating alongside a dedicated team. “This piece represents me as an artist because I am always looking for ways to call on cultural references, storytelling and the ability to find connections between seemingly unrelated interests,” Ellis said of his process. “In my work, I like to showcase my ability to express myself through art in a way that is meaningful and unique to my own experiences and passions.”
Ellis’ Hoop Dream Studios is now finding traction in music and sport culture. Some recent projects include a boombox inspired hoop for BET’s 50th hip-hop celebration. In looking to the future however, Ellis wants to continue taking those bold steps to create and experiment more, all while inspiring the younger generation. “I would say Hoop Dream Studios is a space for us to keep elevating the game,” Ellis said. “We just want to keep designing the craziest hoops and keep coming up with the freshest ideas. And for myself personally, I honestly just want to inspire kids who look like who are in places like Riverside where not much is going on.”
