Merrell has delivered exploration-driving apparel and footwear for over 40 years, uniting adventurers to connect over a shared love for the outdoors.
Hypebeast spent a day with multi-hyphenate creative, skater, and explorer Robert Neal. Neal is most known for his skills on the ramp, but when he is not brushing up on new tricks, he is lounging on the beach, taking in scenic hikes in the foothills of Los Angeles, or spending time with his pets.
Bringing us into his multifaceted world, we began the day with Neal at his downtown Los Angeles apartment,
Emphasizing communal experiences spent revering the world’s natural wonders through the Merrell lens,
where he introduced his exotic array of beloved pets — including snakes and a tarantula named Rosy. Before heading out to face the day’s quest, Neal slipped on Merrell’s dependable Speed Eco shoe.
Neal broadens his horizons and expands his pool of inspiration and creative possibilities, proving that good things come to those who hike.
The Speed Eco is Merrell’s most sustainable hiking shoe yet,
and it displays recycled laces, as well as a recycled upper, lining, EVA foot-bed, and rubber outsole. A breathable mesh lining facilitates constant air circulation and Cleansport NXT™ treats the shoe for natural odor control. The minimal silhouette of the Speed Eco makes it a streamlined, compatible option for any hiking destination.
Before trekking up an off-beat trail, he changed into the Rogue Hiker, a model made to fortify wearers through any expedition.
The Rogue Hiker is Merrell’s ultimate waterproof offering.
The durable boot is meant to be worn while backpacking or traversing rough, dirt trail terrains, with extreme traction technology — Vibram Megagrip® — to maximize performance and grip. Providing protection against even the most intemperate conditions, the shoe is also equipped with a Gore-Tex® waterproof membrane.
Keeping the wearer comfortable and stable,
the shoe incorporates the fit of Merrell’s tried and true Agility Peak trail run shoe, as well as durable metal hook and eyelets, a two-part dual density Float-Pro™ Foam midsole, and reliable traction lugs that shed debris with every step taken.
The creative explored the beach using a metal detector and played frisbee with his two dogs, Snoop and Sage, while sporting the Merrell Hydro Mocs.
The Hydro Moc is a water-friendly shoe made for slipping on and off with ease.
Employing some of the brand’s most advanced technology, the shoe is constructed out of an EVA foam upper with a flexible fit and a light-as-air feel.
Changing the game completely by taking the sustainable element one step further,
the Hydro Moc’s performance foam, BLOOM®, is made out of 10% algae biomass, which converts up to 93 liters of green, or contaminated, water to clean fresh water with every pair created.
while delivering top-tier performance. All three models are environmentally-friendly and incorporate recycled materials, reflecting Neal’s admiration for the natural world.
