Football — or soccer, depending on where you’re from — has had a memorable place in most of our childhoods. For some it was just another way to pass gym class, but for many others the interest ran deeper, ranging anywhere from enthusiasm to absolute mania. For Virgil Abloh, his love for the sport might sit somewhere on that spectrum closer to nostalgia, which we see at the core of his upcoming Nike Football collaboration.
In typical Off-White fashion, loud graphics are the focal point, having been printed across Abloh’s entire kit. Each is nuanced with references; either to hip-hop tracks he would listen to as a kid on his way to matches, or to the sponsorship aesthetics of traditional European teams. The printed dots on the other hand tell a different story. To mark the best spot to hit a ball with your foot, Virgil imagined dots on the boot. These dots worked their way up into the overall design, with appearances on the jerseys, shorts, and logo crest.
