Chinatown Market Remixes Heritage Aesthetics for Its Original Penguin Collab
Garments range from T-shirts, polos, sweaters and hoodies.
Recently debuting his latest collection and workshop, Mike Cherman of Chinatown Market provides a closer look at his collaborative offering with Original Penguin. Though both brands lie within different sectors of men’s fashion, Cherman melded his aesthetics with that of Original Penguin to create an ambitious capsule that remixes heritage motifs through a streetwear perspective.
Working strictly with tops, the garments range from T-shirts, polos, sweaters and hoodies. Patterns essential to the core aesthetical themes of Original Penguin are used, such as tartans and checkerboard prints, while graphical elements that represent the two brands are embellished throughout. However, Mike made sure to sustain an essence of design that alludes to Chinatown Market’s idiosyncratic DNA.
Supporting the line, the above lookbook references features akin to the life and landscape of New York City’s Chinatown. Tonally designed sets, with the inclusion of dyed milk crates and translucent vinyl curtains, accent the collection’s color palette. Thus what is created, is a scene that one could encounter walking through the alleys of the iconic NYC neighborhood.
Releasing October 26, head over to Original Penguin’s website to view its assortment of garments.
