to Life With Innovative Pop-Up

In creating C2H4‘s collaboration with mastermind JAPAN, creative director and founder Yixi Chen was not just executing a clothing collaboration. The concept was inclusive of an entirely fictional secret society that she and her team wanted to bring to life through a pop-up event in Shanghai. It was an important element of the project, considering Chen is motivated by seeing others react to her work, and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G played a key role in turning her vision into something tangible. “Human connection is a big part of where I get my satisfaction,” says Chen. “It’s not only the things I create, but also how other people interact with what I make.”
As the label’s first physical event, the C-MASTERMIND pop-up was a pivotal moment for the brand and Chen. It was an added challenge for the designer, who already operates at a pace faster than most, so she looked to her team and the technology around her to streamline the process. “I could not do anything without my team,” says Chen. “And the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G is a tool because we, as humans, are really limited with our capabilities — technology just makes everything more efficient.” The device’s app continuity — which seamlessly transitions between the phone and tablet displays — allowed Chen to finish big tasks on the go.

For Chen, the pop-up was more than just part of the job — it was a celebration of her team, collaboration and vision. “In creating things, you turn your imagination or inspiration or idea into something that actually exists and other people can see it,” she says. “I feel happy that we have people that care about the things that we make.” To mark the occasion, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 5G helped to capture not just the space, but the people who embody the C2H4 ethos. The device’s suite of features for hands free photos and night mode camera made for images that encapsulated Chen’s forward-thinking perspective and, even more importantly, her community. “C2H4 is not only about clothes,” says Chen. “It’s a new point of view of what the future of possibilities for human beings could be.”
