Anti Gentrification Cxffee Club
761 National St, Memphis, TN 38122
Founded in 2019 by husband and wife Bartholomew Jones and Renata Henderson, Anti Gentrification Cxffee Club is a community-oriented and educational coffee company that operates an entirely all-Black coffee supply chain from Ethiopia to Memphis. Celebrating the origin of coffee, its natural cultivation and cultural ties to the motherland, Cxffeeblack reclaims the narrative surrounding coffee and has set a benchmark for representation in a glaring corporate landscape. This spirit of education carries over through grassroots initiatives: In 2023, Cxffeeblack’s Barista Exchange Program sent four baristas to Ethiopia and Rwanda to learn about local harvesting processes, and in 2024, the company is extending this opportunity to four African baristas, who will attend classes in Memphis.
Show some love to the store owners and treat yourself to an ethically sourced latte by visiting Cxffee Club’s pop-up coffee bar during the FedEx St. Jude Championship on August 14 through 18.

This 31-acre park honors Lee’s legacy and provides a rejuvenated space for the Memphis community. Once dominated by industrial buildings, the park underwent a modern facelift with the help of SCAPE and Studio Gang, enhancing the city’s connection to the river. New amenities include the 20,000-square-foot Sunset Canopy for sports and events, a modern fitness center and trails with vibrant flora and fauna. Tom Lee Park is also now home to state-of-the-art putting greens donated through the PGA TOUR’s FedEx St. Jude Championship Equipment Grant, which aims to increase equity, diversity and accessibility in the sport of golf by supporting nonprofit organizations in the city.

Located on 735 North Pkwy, Cozy Corner whips up food worth waiting in line for. In its simplicity, the renowned eatery shows how food can bridge people and timelines together. Bradley carries on a barbecue legacy forged by his grandfather and a generational commitment to southern cuisine and cooking practices. Entrepreneur and designer Ben Colar, originally from Chicago, Illinois, moved to Memphis and pursued a 17-year-long career in art and design before turning his sights to the art of the cocktail. Inkwell was born from his love of mixology and a desire to create an inclusive and artisanal cocktail experience. Interior designer Carmeon Hamilton is behind the bar’s cozy atmosphere, and Feast & Graze developed elegant charcuterie offerings and savory flatbread pizzas to complement craft cocktails “Harlem Renaissance,” “Shawty I’m Home,” “Strawberry Hennessy,” and more. Two floors and a backyard patio facilitate intimate one-on-ones and a chance to settle into Memphis’ buzzing nightlife.

Co-founded by photographer/videographer Nate Packard and Nick Riley, Bad Timing is a vintage clothing store stationed in the heart of Crosstown (549 S Highland St). Packard originally conceived of Bad Timing while hosting his first pop-up shop in Edge District, a collaboration with 143 Studio dubbed the “Yard Sale.” The space captures the unique synergy between pop culture and street fashion, curated for the discerning thrifting enthusiast looking for a perfect, one-off Marlboro T-shirt or conversation-starting knick-knack. On August 2, Bad Timing hosted an on-site style workshop for golf lovers attending the FedEx St. Jude Championship that merged fashion and sport. Fashion savants were encouraged to challenge their on-course style sensibilities and create ensembles that effortlessly blended technical apparel with relaxed street styles.

ANTI GENTRIFICATION CXFFEE CLUB
"I wasn’t in the know about all things coffee until I met the brilliant mind that is Bartholomew Jones a.k.a Bart. A frustration of ours at the time was why do we have to leave our neighborhoods to find coffee spots. I align with the mission and the approach to their cause so deeply, CXFFEE BLACK is family. They’re all officially sponsoring OUTERSPACE, all the coffee we serve there is theirs."

"I’d dare say we care more about wings than BBQ here now…asking people who makes the best wings is a great way to start a passionate discussion. Places like Ching’s, Crumpy’s, and Wing Factory in Orange Mound are favorites for sure. Also, I’ve recently become addicted to Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant. I could eat there everyday and live a happy life."

“We have spaces like Bad Timing, 901 Deals, and Retrograde that help bring that energy to the city. We’re also a sneaker city for sure — shout out to the homies at Sneakfest. What I notice most is that people here looking to establish a fashion identity are either thrifting more or simply designing their own clothes for themselves or to sell online.”

"I definitely think the PGA TOUR can gain traction with younger creatives, as long as the approach to gaining that traction is sincere and honest. In my opinion, there are a lot of things that need to change in the world of golf to make it clear that people like me will not only have no issue participating, but that we’re welcome. I think that starts with meeting people where they are, in their neighborhoods, in their culture, with their friends and family."
"In a much broader sense, we want to harness the imaginations of our creative community to simply make this tournament more reflective of Memphis culture. We also have plans to activate events and initiatives in the neighborhoods of our city to give visibility to the sport and craft of golf, so you don’t just think of these suburban fields of green when you think of golf. We want to bring the sport and idea of golf to our world, our way."
