An Inside Look Into W Hotels'
WAKE UP CALL Festival in Dubai
Scrapbook documents the best festivals, events, activations and experiences through the lens of HYPEBEAST. Using film photography, we’ll give you an inside look into events from around the globe through the eyes of influential members of the fashion, music and entertainment spheres.
The sun-kissed archipelago of one of the world’s largest manmade islands served as the most recent stop for the WAKE UP CALL music festival from W Hotels. Taking place on the grounds of W Dubai – The Palm, the hotel's three-day festivities enchanted guests to an incomparable festival that was sure to stimulate the senses like never-before, via the luxe exploration of sound and taste. Music has been a focal point for WAKE UP CALL since its debut in 2018, but the event goes far beyond performances. Attendees also had access to world-class culinary dishes and intimate VIP experiences. And whether people retreated to their rooms or conquered the weekend’s entire packed schedule, W Hotels was sure to include entertainment across a broad spectrum.
For the Dubai edition, which took place earlier this month, an impressive lineup of music acts hit the stage on hotel grounds. RÜFÜS DU SOL, Rita Ora and Disclosure brought audio-visual performances that wowed attendees with their own distinct sounds and lighting effects. Taking the weekend to the next level, Marriott Bonvoy members had access to V.I.P. experiences that included a private yoga session with Ora and a ping pong tournament with RÜFÜS DU SOL. To round out the weekend, W Hotels brought its “Detox, Retox, Repeat” mantra to life with expert-led fitness classes and food options from Massimo Bottura’s Torno Subito and Akira Back. HYPEBEAST sat down with two of the festivals performers — the German artist Roosevelt and the members of electronic duo Bob Moses — to get their takes on hotel and festival life.

What do you look for in a hotel?
Roosevelt: I want to feel like I’m at home. I want to feel cozy and comfortable, but still enjoy good service.

What’s your pre-show ritual?
Tom Howie: Jimmy likes to go over the set list even though we already all know the set list and its on paper on stage.
Jimmy Vallance: We all do weird stuff. I usually start ironing a shirt and do vocal warmups at the same time. I think I say, “here we go, boys,” at least 30 times before we go on stage.
