Scrapbook: Four Creatives Take Us Behind The Scenes of New York Fashion Week
Scrapbook documents the best festivals, events, activations and experiences through the lens of HYPEBEAST. Using film photography developed by Manual, we’ll give you an inside look into events from around the globe through the eyes of influential members of the fashion, music and entertainment spheres.
This past New York Fashion Week, we asked four creatives to document their experiences: designer Ev Bravado, celebrity stylist Toreno Winn, photographer Joshua Renfroe and fashion stylist Alexander Julian. Each captured the essence of NYFW through their own lens, giving us an inside look at everything from dressing models to hit the runway, rushing to the shows to photograph the best street style, to pulling together the perfect Pyer Moss afterparty look. As always, the key for industry professionals is to find equal time for work and play.
This scrapbook shares a glimpse inside Fashion Week’s most anticipated events while offering insight on what key items creatives need to get the job done. “My essentials are water, rest and good food,” says Ev. “My iPhone, sunglasses, a portable charger, and the Uber app,” Alexander adds.
Check out all the candid behind-the-scenes of moments from the streets of New York and read through their tips on preparing for NYFW.
Victor Cruz
“Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes. You’re going to be on your feet a lot walking around. Also, don’t wait till the last minute to hit your friends up for your artist passes or credentials or the things you need to finesse through the festival.”
Snoop Dogg
“You got to have a mask, you got to have something that’s going to cover your face because it's going to get dusty. You have dress light because it's going to be hot but at nighttime it's a possibility that it could be cold, so you want to have both outfits. You want to have a night outfit and a day outfit. You want to stay hydrated and have a lot of fruits in your system and vegetables, if you know what I mean. Just vibe, because it's all positivity and all love; everybody is out here just living their life and just enjoying their time for Coachella. It's a great place that brings all kinds of people together so you’ll fit right in no matter who you are or where you’re from.”

What are some rules for Coachella or music festivals in general?
Todd Gurley: “It’s a music festival, there are no rules. You’re supposed to do what you’re not supposed to do that’s why you go to a festival.”

"While Fashion Week is a fast-paced, high-energy environment always think about your composition/angles. Make sure to focus on the main subject, get creative with your shots, research inspo whether it would be backstage or street style."

"It's been a long time coming, but this was just a small offering of what we envision for the womenswear world, so to have everything be well received was amazing. Stay tuned though, this is just the beginning."

"I get my inspiration from anime and style icons like Andre 3000, MC Hammer, Lil B and Prince. They all pushed boundaries, broke rules, started trends, created with no fear of judgement and were left of center."
