Fans were additionally blessed with stylish merch, an electric atmosphere, and even a surprise performance from JAY-Z and Snoop Dogg.
HYPEBEAST had the pleasure of attending Something In The Water and put together a scrapbook to recap the weekend. Read on to get Skateboard P’s thoughts on why this festival means so much to him.
HYPEBEAST: How does it feel to return home and have your own inaugural music festival?
Pharrell: I think that’s what we’re doing here, we’re doing the impossible. We had a short tarmac, we had a short take off time, we had a new plane, we were looking for fuel, we had new partners on board, so every time we hit an air pocket everybody freaked out, but everybody stayed on board and we’re eternally grateful for that.
Victor Cruz
“Don’t wear uncomfortable shoes. You’re going to be on your feet a lot walking around. Also, don’t wait till the last minute to hit your friends up for your artist passes or credentials or the things you need to finesse through the festival.”
Snoop Dogg
“You got to have a mask, you got to have something that’s going to cover your face because it's going to get dusty. You have dress light because it's going to be hot but at nighttime it's a possibility that it could be cold, so you want to have both outfits. You want to have a night outfit and a day outfit. You want to stay hydrated and have a lot of fruits in your system and vegetables, if you know what I mean. Just vibe, because it's all positivity and all love; everybody is out here just living their life and just enjoying their time for Coachella. It's a great place that brings all kinds of people together so you’ll fit right in no matter who you are or where you’re from.”

What are some rules for Coachella or music festivals in general?
Todd Gurley: “It’s a music festival, there are no rules. You’re supposed to do what you’re not supposed to do that’s why you go to a festival.”
Why did you want to bring a festival of this caliber back to your hometown?
It’s just our time. It’s Virginia’s time. We’ve been wanting to host an NCAA championship here for years, but who won it this year? UVA. It’s important that we just get out there and do it now. It’s not just me, it’s the city council, it’s the state, the community leaders, the business owners, restaurateurs, hoteliers, and most importantly the community.
You work oozes passion and positivity. Is that something you saw a lot of here growing up?
I think there’s passion and positivity anywhere, I think more than anything else why passion and positivity comes out of me is because I’m just grateful. I appreciate it all.
Before you go on stage what's your routine like to prepare? Any rituals or mantras?
Vocal warm ups. They’re almost religious for me.
