Scarr Pimentel Makes Pizza for the People
Timberland calls upon the Scarr’s Pizza owner to describe how taking a career risk led to the creation of a close-knit community.
Timberland’s “Built for the Bold” campaign spotlights both established and emerging talent, displaying the many ways one can portray boldness and honor Timberland’s work heritage. Scarr Pimentel, owner of Scarr’s Pizza, persisted in the face of uncertainty to open his own pizzeria. As his business grew, he practiced patience to see it through, always grounded by his authenticity and motivation to bring joy to others.
Scarr Pimentel was born and raised in New York City. Originally from Uptown, he was no stranger to the New York slice. He was brought up in the restaurant industry, as his family was involved in the business and he worked as a busboy at the old school joint, Bellato’s. Scarr had always wanted to start his own business, but it wasn’t until later in life that Scarr’s Pizza came to fruition.
Scarr noticed that the New York classic slice was not what it used to be. He felt that enjoyable pizzerias needed to go back to the basics — great food and a welcoming community to share it. That’s when Scarr’s Pizza came to life. “We almost never opened,” he stated, “We barely had enough money to open. There was a lot we had to overcome. A lot of people didn’t believe in us. But having a good product always helps.” Scarr is not concerned with any of the flashy tactics that many modern food establishments take on today, but rather, his main focus became the actual comradery and friendly experience that his restaurant brings.
Now dominating the Lower East Side, Scarr’s Pizza is a local favorite. From his classic decor to the familiar rap beats playing over the speakers, he creates an environment that is truly for the people. A large source of his inspiration comes from the city he grew up in and those who pushed him to pursue his goals, although he maintains that it was not always a straightforward path, “You can’t please everybody, but it doesn’t mean you need to stop trying.”

Along with the sights, sounds, and people of New York City, Scarr also expressed how street style influenced him along the way. Many of the pieces in Timberland’s “Built for the Bold'' collection expand upon their original styles, reflecting Scarr’s goal of paying homage to tradition. Timberland was a tenet of his personal style back then and continues to be today, making this campaign second nature for the business owner.
