How to make green bean casserole

Tip: Make green bean casserole with canned, frozen (thawed) or fresh green beans. If using fresh green beans, they work best when blanched beforehand so they fully cook in the oven along with the creamy mushroom sauce.

Make it ahead of time

Complete Steps 1 and 2. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and a layer of foil for extra freezer burn protection. Freeze until ready to cook.

From there you can…

Thaw in the refrigerator the night before baking. Start with Step 3, making sure to remove the plastic wrap and foil.

Let the casserole stand for 10 minutes at room temperature. Start with Step 3, but increase the bake time in 15-minute increments until the center reaches 160°F.
