The ability to "think like an attacker" is the best way to defend against attacks. Your employees are your biggest asset, but also at the biggest risk for social engineering (SE). Awareness is the best defense against SE threats. Class activities will introduce students to profiling the online presence of employees and enterprises, as well as performing hands-on attacks against WiFi and physical computers. After successful completion of this course, students will have a better understanding of how to detect and/or prevent to SE events by looking at their defenses from a different perspective.

Twenty-five years ago, a supercomputer faced a world chess champion in a match seen around the world. In a tense 6-game competition in New York, IBM’s Deep Blue prevailed over Garry Kasparov, still regarded as one of the greatest chess players of all time.
At IoT World and The AI Summit Austin, Kasparov was re-united with Murray Campbell, distinguished Research Scientist, one of the founders of the Deep Blue team at IBM, and the man who physically moved those chess pieces. The years have made Kasparov more contemplative, but he still slightly bristled over his 1997 defeat. “This match, by the way, was a rematch. I won the first one,” Kasparov pointed out at the event.

AI Business reported that DesignBro, an online marketplace for graphic designers, used OpenAI’s GPT-3 language model, which harnesses deep learning to produce content, to ask Americans what they think about each US state. The technology found South Dakota is ‘pretty boring’ while Ohio’s ‘not as bad as Michigan’. We also enjoyed the finding that Hawaii is ‘a place where you can be as lazy as you want and no-one will judge you’.
