new traditions meet softness
& strength
The top FW26/27 aesthetics signify a season of mesmerizing sartorial ambition. Fashion by Informa’s FW26/27 Women’s Advanced Contemporary and Contemporary Buyer’s Guides introduce three key trends in detail: Wild Heritage, Still Power, and Tough & Tender.
COTERIE partnered with fashion stylist Caitlin Burke to interpret these trends on site with singular FW26/27 apparel, accessory, and footwear designs by brands exhibiting at the February 2026 edition of COTERIE. Explore the season’s top concepts and prepare to be inspired by Burke’s inimitable styling of brands, all shoppable at COTERIE.
WILD HERITAGE
Wild Heritage marries heritage techniques, heirloom textiles, and outdoor traditions for a modern aesthetic centered on fine craftsmanship and textures that are hard to resist. “Fur continues to be a big trend that we’re seeing at COTERIE. This season, there were a ton of vintage-inspired and more traditional furs,” says Burke. She deftly incorporated two examples of the traditional textile with a wild, new spin for two Wild Heritage looks—a cropped, fringed fur by Naked Wardrobe and a leopard fur coat with a funnel neck
(by Chosen) that feels different and fresh.

Still Power features garments that have structure with a softness to it. The trend also plays with futuristic proportions and tactile knitwear, such as wool and mohair. For one look, Burke shone the spotlight on a white Otowotto coat she describes as minimal at first glance but powerful in its silhouette. “The construction of these pieces is intentionally precise, allowing subtle variations to become perceptible, " says the brand’s founder Yi-Ting Stephanie and creative director, Yuxuan Huang. “We worked with materials that can hold structure while remaining responsive to the body. This balance is essential—the garments maintain clarity in silhouette, yet they are never rigid. There is always a slight movement, a sense that the form could shift,” they explain.
TOUGH & TENDER
For another interpretation, Burke combined romantic, white lace designs from three different brands (Nia Thomas,
Line + Dot, and Rumored) only to subvert the tenderness with messy layers reminiscent of ’90s grunge for a stunning yet tattered effect. Nia Thomas designed the skirt featured in this look: “This design explores the balance between structure and fluidity through a language of modern minimalism. Inspired by architectural interiors and the play of light and shadow, it focuses on clean silhouettes, sculptural tailoring, and subtle sensuality,” says the founder and creative director of her namesake brand.
COTERIE FW26/27 featured one unforgettable collection after another from exceptional brands around the globe. In addition to appreciating their design savvy, Burke observes that trends are becoming increasingly sophisticated. “Everything really worked together in the same world, and I think that’s where trends are moving,” she explains. “They’re no longer siloed. They all live within the same world and they’re a lot more nuanced. That’s how the modern world is dressing right now and it’s what we saw at COTERIE.”
“For me, Still Power is the quiet force that emerges when clothing is created with humanity, care, and intention,” says Namnyak Odupoy, founder and designer at Studio Namnyak. “In a world shaped by speed and constant noise, there is something profoundly powerful about garments made slowly by real hands with focused attention,” she continues. For Still Power, Burke styled a black Studio Namnyak sweater jacket with a pair of high-waisted Otowotto pants with covered buttons, “The jacket feels soft, texturally, and it has a sculptural, exaggerated collar that gives it so much structure and presence,” Burke explains.

“Wild Heritage is about taking something that has been around for a while and putting a modern twist on it,” says Burke. That was apparent in her choice of traditional color palettes and styles that also happened to be full of surprises. For example, Burke styled a classic twinset by Greedilous that looks more modern, thanks to artful distressing. For another, she styled a Chie Mihara jacket featuring oversized balloon
sleeves with an Anna Seravalli midi skirt and a bold leather
bag by Bazar Deluxe; Burke transformed a buttoned-up,
classic aesthetic into the unexpected via new proportions.

“I was really drawn to the fact that they had similar felt textures and I thought they paired really well together,” says Burke, describing one Still Power
look. She styled the Goodmatch coat to be worn like
a dress for a simple, beautiful silhouette, with Silvia Heach shorts underneath and a jYANN bag. “I wanted the bag to feel both grounded and fluid with a silhouette that is structured yet relaxed, allowing the color gradient to become the main visual story,” says Jihane Boumediane, Ph.D., founder and creative director of jYANN, describing her hand-felted wool, tri-color ombré design.

Tough & Tender is described as a minimal take on gothic glam and night-out dressing that juxtaposes fabrics like lace and silk with tougher-looking fabrics and aesthetics, such as leather jackets. For instance, for one look, Burke styled black, edgy Meadowe earrings with a monochromatic ensemble by YESAET. “It’s tender because it’s see-through and it’s a twinset silhouette, and the tough aspect is that it’s a rough and wrinkly, raw material that you wouldn't expect to find in such a feminine silhouette,” Burke explains. “Nature is our forever muse,” says Hiywet Mimi Girma, founder and designer of YESAET. “In the rough bark of an ancient tree, the cracked bed of a sunbaked riverbed, the uneven scatter of pebbles in the sand… she writes her most honest stories. Her imperfections are our perfections—raw in the truest sense,” she says, sharing the inspiration behind their compelling textures. “At YESAET, we lean into the tension between opposing forces: soft against structured, raw against refined, familiar against unexpected,” Girma adds.
Burke gravitates toward Elif Cığızoğlu pieces for a strong point of view she describes as being both very true to their brand’s aesthetic while simultaneously remaining on trend. For two Tough & Tender interpretations, she paired simple, elegant ElifCığızoğlu separates with dark, edgy, gothic elements that also spoke to the trend’s Art Deco-style Asian influences. “There’s something beautiful about the tension between softness and strength. I also enjoy playing with silhouettes and materials in slightly unexpected ways, so this juxtaposition feels very natural to me,” says Elif Cığızoğlu, creative director and founder of her namesake brand. “It’s an opportunity to explore how delicacy and edge can coexist within the same look, and how texture and contrast can create something modern, expressive, and full of personality.”
