Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Entry-level position. Assists patients with basic care needs and requires a short certification program.
Level 1
Level 2
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Provides basic clinical care and facilitates communication between patients and RNs/doctors. Requires 1-year diploma and a passing grade on the NCLEX-PN exam.
Level 3
Registered Nurse (RN)
Delivers advanced clinical care and coordinates treatment plans under physician supervision. Requires an associate or bachelor’s degree and a passing grade on the NCLEX-PN exam.
Level 4
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
Independently diagnoses conditions and prescribes medications. Requires an RN license, a master’s or doctoral degree in nursing, and certification in a specialized APRN role.
