Among Republicans, 73% approve of Trump’s performance, representing a nine-point decline from August. In contrast, just 24% of independents and a mere 4% of Democrats approve of Trump’s job performance.

23% of Americans say the economy is the most important problem, representing a slight increase from the 17% measured in July and on par with the 22% reading in August.

This month, the economy remains Americans’ most important problem facing the nation (23%), followed by threats to democratic values and norms (12%) and corruption (12%). Independents (22%) and Republicans (21%) continue to cite the economy as their top concern. Concern among Democrats is split between the economy (25%) and threats to democratic values and norms (20%).
