A century of jobsite innovation
Milwaukee was founded in 1924, and innovation has been at the core of the company since its earliest days. Many of its earliest breakthroughs were safety innovations in disguise: tools like the SAWZALL® replaced a highly repetitive, physically demanding task – cutting with a traditional hacksaw – with a powered solution that let electricians and plumbers work faster while reducing the musculoskeletal strain of repetitive motion. When Milwaukee entered the PPE category in 2008, rather than following the industry norm of sourcing existing products from third parties and applying its own branding, it stayed true to its roots of disruptive innovation and designed PPE from the ground up through its own engineering teams in Wisconsin – the same principle that has driven the brand for a century: understand the problem on the jobsite, then engineer the solution.
From first helmet to industry-leading ratings
Milwaukee’s first safety helmet introduced a Lexan shell, foam cradle suspension, and chin strap at a time when those features were unfamiliar to many Canadian users. That early bet was validated in 2025, when Virginia Tech’s construction head protection ratings placed Milwaukee’s ANSI-certified Type 2 Safety Helmets in the top two positions industry-wide in the inaugural results.
Built around the people who wear it
Milwaukee’s primary customers span some of the most demanding trades in the country – general contractors, electrical and plumbing trades, power utilities, mining and automotive – and the company’s safety strategy centres on two of the biggest risks those workers face: traumatic brain injuries and hand lacerations. That starts with understanding what actually keeps PPE on a worker’s head or hands, not just what a spec sheet says it should do. Milwaukee’s jobsite research found users zip-tying headlamps, markers and other accessories to their hard hats because the built-in accessory slots were already taken up by earmuffs. That insight led directly to the BOLT™ system: a dedicated accessory platform, developed through extensive jobsite research, that gives users their own attachment points for lights, earmuffs, sunshades, voltage detectors and other jobsite tools – all without compromising the helmet’s core protection. Milwaukee’s Wear Defence gloves apply the same logic to hand protection, engineered using coreless technology to outlast traditional dipped gloves and deliver a stronger return on investment over time.
Designing for a diverse workforce
Milwaukee applies that same user-first approach to fit. Rather than resizing a single design for everyone – an approach the industry has sometimes called “pink it and shrink it” – the company engineers PPE specifically for the person wearing it, whether male or female, because ill-fitting gear can introduce its own hazards around tools and machinery. That same forward focus extends to what’s next for the platform: Milwaukee is exploring smart and AI-enabled features for future generations of its helmet line, alongside cold-weather and heat-stress solutions and new materials – including Coreless and Rheon – aimed at improving hand protection without sacrificing dexterity.
Engineering for fit and inclusion
PIP Canada highlights products including the PIP RZRBack safety helmet, which the company describes as the first CSA-certified safety helmet built with MIPS rotational-impact protection and designed and manufactured entirely in Canada, alongside G-Tek Paradox cut-resistant gloves and Bisley premium workwear line.
In select categories such as hand protection, eyewear and workwear, the company also offers options engineered to fit women properly rather than resizing men’s patterns. It has further expanded its in-Canada portfolio through the acquisition of Honeywell’s PPE division, adding renowned brands including Miller, North, and Howard Leight.
Product overview
Milwaukee’s BOLT™ Head Protection System is designed to deliver protection, comfort, and adaptability for professional users across construction and industrial jobsites. The platform includes Type 1 hard hats and Type 2 safety helmets, providing solutions for a wide range of applications and jobsite requirements.
At the centre of the system is Milwaukee’s BOLT™ accessory platform. Developed through extensive jobsite research, BOLT™ addresses a common challenge for workers who need to use multiple pieces of PPE and jobsite accessories at the same time. The system provides dedicated attachment points that allow users to integrate multiple accessories, including headlamps, earmuffs, face protection, sun protection, and other solutions, without compromising the functionality of their head protection.
Key features and capabilities
Milwaukee’s BOLT™ Head Protection System is designed around three key priorities: protection, comfort and adaptability. The platform includes Type 1 hard hats and Type 2 safety helmets, giving users options based on the hazards and requirements of their jobsite.
Type 2 protection: This is designed to provide protection from both top and side impacts, with an adjustable chin strap helping keep the helmet securely in place during an incident.
BOLT™ accessory system: Dedicated BOLT™ and universal accessory slots allow users to integrate multiple accessories at the same time. The growing platform includes lighting, earmuffs, face protection, sun protection and other jobsite solutions.
All-day comfort: Padded suspension, adjustable fit systems, and replaceable sweatbands are designed to improve comfort and encourage consistent wear throughout the workday.
Jobsite adaptability: Accessories can be added, removed, or changed as the user moves between applications, creating a head protection system that adapts to the work being performed.
CSA and ANSI certified: Canadian Type 2 models are available with certifications to CSA Z94.1 and ANSI/ISEA Z89.1 requirements.
Ultimately, BOLT™ is designed to help eliminate the compromise between safety and productivity, providing workers with head protection they want to wear and a platform that works the way they do.
Integrations
Key integrations across the BOLT™ platform include:
Lighting: headlamp mounts compatible with Milwaukee and most professional headlamps
Hearing protection: earmuffs integrate through dedicated accessory locations without eliminating other attachment points
Face and eye protection: eye visors and full-face shields, including clear and mesh options, integrate directly with the helmet
Sun protection: sun visors and sunshades provide up to 360° UV coverage while maintaining compatibility with other accessories
Jobsite accessories: marker clips keep pens and markers accessible without consuming universal accessory slots
Multi-accessory compatibility: low-profile mounts and dedicated attachment points allow accessories such as lighting and face protection to be used together
Milwaukee’s BOLT™ system turns head protection into an integrated PPE platform. Dedicated attachment points built directly into the helmet allow users to quickly add, remove, and interchange accessories based on the task.
Users can integrate multiple accessories simultaneously, including headlamps, earmuffs, face shields, eye visors, sun protection, and marker clips, without competing for the same attachment points. The result is a customizable head protection system that adapts to the user and the job, helping them stay safe and stay productive.
How the product works
After-sales and customer services
Milwaukee supports the BOLT™ platform beyond the initial purchase through a growing ecosystem of replacement parts, accessories and service support. Replaceable components such as suspensions, sweatbands and chin straps help users maintain their head protection, while the expanding BOLT™ accessory platform allows the system to evolve with changing jobsite needs.
Milwaukee’s field teams also work directly with customers to support product implementation, user education and ongoing feedback after deployment.
