OK Alone is a lone worker safety platform that helps organizations protect employees who work alone, remotely, or in higher‑risk situations. Founded in 2013 in Victoria, BC – and now part of Peoplesafe, a global personal safety technology group – OK Alone provides a practical, app‑based solution that turns lone worker policies into day‑to‑day protection.
The platform is designed for sectors where staff are frequently away from direct supervision: healthcare and community services, utilities, field services, local government, social care, and other public‑facing or geographically dispersed operations. In these environments, employers are grappling with the same core challenges – limited visibility of worker status, delayed response when something goes wrong, inconsistent check‑in procedures, low‑signal or remote working conditions, and the need to demonstrate a clear, defensible duty‑of‑care process.
OK Alone addresses those issues by combining simple worker actions with strong management oversight. Workers use a mobile app to check in at the start and end of lone working or shifts, set timed check‑ins for higher‑risk tasks, and raise a Panic Button alert if they need help.
Man‑down detection provides an additional layer of protection if a worker is unable to raise the alarm themselves, while Low Signal Mode+ supports operation in areas with poor connectivity.
On the management side, a live safety dashboard shows who is working alone, where they are, and whether any check‑ins have been missed, with configurable escalation paths that can trigger internal response or route incidents to a 24/7 Safety Monitoring Center.
Strategic expansion and partnerships
From its origins as a Canadian SaaS solution developed by Trusty Ox Systems, OK Alone has evolved into a broader employee safety platform with a growing presence across North America. Key milestones include the launch of its 24/7 Safety Monitoring Center, which extended the service from app‑based monitoring to professionally managed emergency response; the development of a Lone Worker API, allowing organizations to integrate check‑ins, location monitoring, and alerts into existing systems and workflows; and satellite integrations with providers, such as ZOLEO and Globalstar SPOT, to support workers in remote or low‑signal environments.
Partnerships have also played a significant role in the platform’s growth. A Geotab integration enables organizations to extend protection beyond the vehicle, bringing lone worker monitoring into the myGeotab environment and aligning driver and worker safety within a single view. The company’s acquisition by Peoplesafe in 2023 further strengthened its position as part of a wider global personal safety technology group, supporting investment in new features, integrations, and market expansion.
A platform that workers and employers can rely on
What sets OK Alone apart is its balance between usability and operational control. Workers get an intuitive, low‑friction app that fits naturally into the working day, while employers gain the visibility, reporting, and flexibility needed to run a credible lone worker program at scale. Automated records of check‑ins, alerts, and escalations create a clear audit trail that supports compliance, internal accountability, and continuous improvement.
By focusing on real‑world working conditions rather than theoretical workflows, OK Alone helps organizations move beyond basic lone worker policies to a more consistent, reliable approach to protecting people – wherever and whenever they are working alone.
Product overview
OK Alone is a lone worker safety solution designed to help organizations protect employees who work alone, remotely, or in higher-risk environments. Built around the realities of mobile and dispersed workforces, the platform gives employers better visibility of worker status, supports faster response when something goes wrong, and helps strengthen lone worker procedures in day-to-day operations. It is used by businesses that need a practical way to support duty of care, improve oversight, and maintain reliable records of safety activity across field, community, public-facing, and remote work environments.
Key features and capabilities
At the core of OK Alone is the Panic Button, which gives lone workers a fast, simple way to raise an alert when they need help. The alert is sent through to the live Safety Dashboard, where monitors can see worker status and location in real time, and it can also be escalated to the 24/7 Safety Monitoring Center for professional emergency support. Additional features include Man Down detection, Timed Activities and high-risk check-ins, Limited Coverage Mode for poor-signal areas, mass notifications and Privacy Mode to give workers greater control over location visibility.
Integrations
OK Alone is designed to work alongside existing operational systems. Its Geotab integration extends fleet and driver safety by bringing OK Alone monitoring into myGeotab, including worker visibility and alerting when staff are away from the vehicle. For remote work, OK Alone integrates with satellite devices, including ZOLEO and Globalstar SPOT, with support for a wider range of satellite providers. The Lone Worker API also allows organizations to connect OK Alone with existing platforms, such as Teams, HR, workforce management, dispatch, or other internal systems, to automate safety workflows and data management.
For most employees, OK Alone is used as a simple check-in system. Workers check in at the start of lone working or a shift, and check out when finished, giving employers visibility without relying on manual follow-up. In an emergency or for higher-risk situations, workers can use the Panic Button for immediate assistance, start a Timed Activity for shorter-duration higher-risk tasks, or rely on Man Down detection if they are unable to raise the alarm themselves. If a worker becomes unresponsive, the system automatically raises an alert. Alerts are then sent to designated monitors through the dashboard, with the option of its 24/7 Safety Monitoring Center, which has a faster response rate than calling 911.
How the product works
After-sales and customer services
OK Alone’s support extends well beyond implementation. The team works closely with customers during onboarding to help configure the system around their roles, risk levels, escalation processes, and internal safety procedures. Training is provided for both workers and administrators to support adoption and confidence in day-to-day use. Ongoing customer support focuses on responsiveness, practical problem-solving, and helping organizations get long-term value from the platform as their needs evolve. This includes assistance with rollout, user engagement, optimization, and continuous improvement, ensuring the system remains aligned with operational realities rather than becoming a set-and-forget safety tool. OK Alone’s intuitive help center can also answer most questions related to the app’s functionality.
