Tech job growth rebounds, strongest performance in years
Those closely monitoring the technology labor market these past few years received good news in the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics data released last Friday.
The numbers revealed a strong month for information technology talent, outperforming the last several years. Most notably, there was a surge of 69,000 IT employees hired in non-tech industries like finance, healthcare and manufacturing. Within the tech industry, employment grew by about 6,700 jobs for the month of May.
Analyzing this recent BLS dataset, paired with CompTIA's industry breakdown, highlights these additional key metrics.
Key drivers of tech hiring growth
Technology job growth was greatest in the following areas:
Cloud infrastructure, data processing and hosting
IT and custom software services and systems design
In addition, companies expanded their pipelines with 587,000 active tech job postings and 269,000 new openings listed in May.
