Challenge
The leading enterprise technology company known for consumer electronics, software and services was managing 12 on-premises payment and financial applications, and five network traffic applications. To enhance scalability, agility and cost efficiency, they wanted to accelerate the migration of these applications to AWS. The client faced several key challenges in migrating their on-premises technology stacks to AWS, including:
Designing the overall architecture and infrastructure to ensure the new architecture could support scalability and performance requirements
Integrating containers to seamlessly incorporate applications into the AWS environment
Implementing traffic management to ensure minimal disruption and optimal performance
Ensuring data integration by safeguarding data integrity and consistency during the migration process
Conducting disaster recovery testing by establishing robust disaster recovery protocols to protect against data loss
Configuring application properties to align with the new cloud environment

Solution
"The Kforce team is a focused extension of our teams. They are engaged, independent, focused on delivering work, adaptive, collaborative and driving solutions in partnership with our teams. Of all the migrations I have seen, this one has been one of the best."
—Client’s Cloud Engineering Manager
Our Kforce Consulting Solutions cloud experts conducted a thorough assessment of the client’s environment and identified key challenges. Our team worked together to complete a multi-phased solution consisting of planning and design in phase one and migration execution in phase two.
Phase 1
Planning & Design
To create a robust cloud environment capable of handling microservices and millions of transactions per minute, our senior DevOps engineers and network traffic engineers validated and enhanced the client’s AWS environment. They ensured alignment with industry best practices, following guidelines set forth in the AWS Well-Architected Framework.
During this phase, our AWS certified practice leaders, delivery performance team and a dedicated solutions engagement lead meticulously designed and facilitated project components. They developed a detailed work breakdown structure for the first 90 days, integrating seamlessly into the client’s project. We documented our knowledge of the client’s organizational layout, strategic vision, culture and work management plan into comprehensive playbooks. This allowed us to contribute to sprint cycles immediately, providing value through key tasks related to site reliability engineering (SRE), DevOps and network engineering.
During this phase, our engineers were assigned to sprint plans focused on multiple payment systems. The Kforce project manager maintained open communication with various client teams to ensure project status transparency. Our DevOps, SRE and network traffic engineering teams collaborated as integral members of the client’s project plan, continuing migration activities and refactoring applications into a microservices-based architecture.
As our team consistently exceeded expectations, they were entrusted with additional tasks, significantly accelerating the client’s cloud migration and shaving three months off the expected project timeline.
phase 2
Migration Execution
Project outcomes
Over the course of about one year, Kforce’s team of engineers provided robust support for 17 applications, including one of the world’s leading digital payment platforms, across four environments. By migrating the processing systems to AWS, the client achieved a highly scalable and quickly deployable standardized microservices-based architecture. This integration of all payment systems into a single infrastructure resulted in several key business outcomes, including cost savings, enhanced operational efficiency and increased agility. The team ensured a seamless deployment and integration process using AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS) for containerization and microservices. They exceeded expectations, accelerating the cloud migration and reducing the original timeline by three months.
