Rich
Rich is recognized as a technical innovator, product architect, industry leader and mentor in the tactical radio and RF power domains. He is presently developing architectures for next generation tactical radio systems, with higher levels of resilience, cognition and upgradability. Rich has devised system solutions for several new product and business areas, including the Next Generation Power Amplifier family, airborne Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) variants and the AN/PRC-158 HMS Manpack radio. Rich was the initiator and architect of the Falcon III® AN/PRC-117G Manpack, adding MANET waveforms, full-duplex MUOS SATCOM and L-Band frequency coverage to legacy capabilities, leading the design team through the complete development process to volume production and successful product launch, with tens of thousands of units ultimately fielded to U.S. and coalition forces. A companion AN/VRC-114 Vehicular Power Amplifier was developed via a collaboration with multiple business segments, providing a mounted capability with extended communications range. Much of Rich’s career centered on successfully fielded radio frequency hardware designs, including the Falcon II® AN/PRC-117F Manpack with both terrestrial and SATCOM communications; the HFRG High Frequency (HF) radio program; 10 kW and 40 kW HF Transmitters; RF-382 and RF-2601 HF Antenna Couplers; and the RF-1130 1kW HF Transmitter. Rich provides formal and informal mentoring of engineers at various levels of experience, sharing knowledge in the areas of RF design engineering and career development. He has participated in several cross-segment initiatives, ranging from proposals to core technology road mapping to design reviews. Rich received the 2009 Harris Corporation Fellow Award, recognized for “technical expertise, leadership skills, and innovative, continuous contributions in achieving and sustaining Harris Corporation's leadership position in the tactical radio market,” and was recently voted a Rochester Engineering Society 2019 Engineer of Distinction. Rich is a long-standing member of the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Electrical Engineering Advisory Board, has been a Military Communications (MILCOM) session chair and paper reviewer, and holds six U.S. patents.
