Hollywood is a city of stars, but Hockeywood shifts the spotlight onto the community members who selflessly help others. We want to recognize the unsung heroes who strive to help LA thrive.
The LA Kings and Mercury Insurance have a long history of partnership,
along with shared beginnings in the great city of Los Angeles. We also share
a common goal of uplifting our community, and as part of the fabric of LA, we are thrilled to introduce the Hockeywood Wall of Fame. Hockeywood is about celebrating the everyday champions of our community, whose selfless acts and hard work keep our city going strong. With your help, we want everyone to know their names.

Meet the Heros:
You can’t find these heroes on the big screen, but you can find
them working hands-on in the community. Their stories inspire us to elevate their causes and create positive change.
Since the age of three, Ryan Hickman has been advocating for the health of our environment through his passion for recycling. His journey started by asking a few neighbors if they would save their recyclables for him to pick up. Since then, the 14-year-old business owner spends his free time sorting bottles and cans for customers all over Orange County through his business, Ryan’s Recycling. His efforts have resulted in over 2,000,000 recycled bottles and cans and over 400 community environmental clean-up events.

Helen Wang’s journey in nursing began over 20 years ago in China. After learning English, earning her BSN, and moving to the U.S., she has since dedicated her time to caring for those in our LA community. She works as a Registered Nurse Lead at CHLA’s Blood Donation Center, which provides 95% of the blood needed for their pediatric patients. Her job is her passion, and she is proud to be part of what her coworkers lovingly refer to as the “Dynamic Duo” with her teammate and fellow Hockeywood Hero, Jean Mendoza. This incredible team of two work tirelessly to oversee operations at the Blood Donation Center while connecting with their community, helping to bring about life-saving care for children.

Since 1992, Jean Mendoza has worked as a nurse in a variety of settings and countries. Her practice brought her from Libya to Saudia Arabia and eventually the United States, where she has cared for patients in a diverse range of circumstances. Jean now works at the CHLA Blood Donation Center alongside her fellow Hockeywood Hero, Helen Wang. This dynamic duo’s dedication and passion for helping others has resulted in life-saving care for children, a heightened sense of community, and a loving space for donors to return to time and time again.
