“Since the dawn of the dot-com era in the 1990s, we have provided a range of ground-and-down services for clients around the country. Often times, data center sites must be upgraded to support the structures and protect mission critical operations. Whether we’re tackling poor soil conditions, large column loads, utilities coordination, or accounting for differential settlement, our goal remains the same – apply our integrated services and expertise to deliver facilities that help meet the exponential demand for data.”

MW
OF DESIGNED SERVER POWER
Langan provided multi-disciplinary support for the development of a 16MW data center. Our site/civil team optimized layout, earthwork, and stormwater management strategies, and prepared plans and land development permit applications. The landscape design interfaced closely with the architecture and included a Japanese-influenced tsuboniwa. Our geotechnical engineers evaluated subsurface conditions, seismicity, and geologic hazards to provide recommendations for foundations, subgrade, grading, excavation, and hardscapes, and to identify impacts from electrical and thermal soil characteristics.
16 MW | HYDROPOWERED
Langan provided multidiscipline engineering services for CoreSite’s first East Coast technology park. Langan’s site design, including air quality permit approval for 34 emergency generators, needed no revisions and was approved on the first pass. Additionally, our team delivered a fast-track design package, complete with 100% site and foundation designs--thereby, further compressing the construction schedule. Deliverables included topographic and utility surveys, an easement plan, and design plans for utility erosion control, stormwater management, geotechnical report, specifications, and soil and hazardous-materials management.

50 MW
Site/Civil, Environmental, Geotechnical
Langan is providing multidisciplinary services for the Equinix development, a multiphased project consisting of three data centers—SV5, SV10, and SV11—on the 11.5-acre site. Our investigations identified that moderately compressible and highly expansive soil was present. Because the data centers are settlement sensitive, we provided recommendations for pile foundations. During construction, we observed installation of auger cast-in-place foundations and provided density tests in the field.
Geotechnical
Langan performed a geotechnical investigation to evaluate subsurface conditions and potential geologic hazards, developed recommendations for driven and auger cast piles, and provided supplemental recommendations for concrete pads within the generator yard and shipping and receiving areas. We also developed site-specific response spectra to evaluate the base-isolated building’s seismic response to the risk-targeted maximum considered earthquake. Silicon Valley SV1 Data Center is the first facility in Santa Clara to use an earthquake-resistant design featuring a base isolation system.
16 MW | N+1 redundancy
Geotechnical
Langan was engaged to provide a site-specific earthquake study, review available data, and develop site-specific response spectra for the maximum considered earthquake and design earthquake. These spectra were developed in accordance with the 2006 International Building Code. Langan also performed probabilistic and deterministic seismic-hazard analyses. Turkcell’s 30-megawatt infrastructure is supported by 2N+1 redundancy and has a Tier III design certificate and a LEED Gold certificate — a mark of sustainability and energy efficiency.
30MW | 2N+1 REDUNDANCY
Site/Civil, Geotechnical
Langan conducted a subsurface investigation at a warehouse for proposed interior water tanks. Our geotechnical design recommendations included drilled mini-piles that could be constructed inside the warehouse with relatively low headroom, and driven timber-pile foundations for the tanks. Other design services included a zoning analysis and approvals, preparation of site drawings for submission to the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission, utility coordination with other consultants, soil-erosion approvals from the soil conservation district, and zoning approval from the NJMC.

Equinix Data Centers
Langan is providing multidisciplinary services for the Equinix development, a multiphased project consisting of three data centers—SV5, SV10, and SV11—on the 11.5-acre site. Our investigations identified that moderately compressible and highly expansive soil was present. Because the data centers are settlement sensitive, we provided recommendations for pile foundations. During construction, we observed installation of auger cast-in-place foundations and provided density tests in the field.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
NTT Silicon Valley SVI Data Centers
Langan performed a geotechnical investigation to evaluate subsurface conditions and potential geologic hazards, developed recommendations for driven and auger cast piles, and provided supplemental recommendations for concrete pads within the generator yard and shipping and receiving areas. We also developed site-specific response spectra to evaluate the base-isolated building’s seismic response to the risk-targeted maximum considered earthquake. Silicon Valley SV1 Data Center is the first facility in Santa Clara to use an earthquake-resistant design featuring a base isolation system.

Turkcell Data Center
Langan was engaged to provide a site-specific earthquake study, review available data, and develop site-specific response spectra for the maximum considered earthquake and design earthquake. These spectra were developed in accordance with the 2006 International Building Code. Langan also performed probabilistic and deterministic seismic-hazard analyses. Turkcell’s 30-megawatt infrastructure is supported by 2N+1 redundancy and has a Tier III design certificate and a LEED Gold certificate — a mark of sustainability and energy efficiency.
