Scope 1
Scope 2
Scope 3
Emissions that a company causes indirectly when the energy it purchases and uses is produced – e.g., the emissions from the generation of electricity used to power our electric fleet of vehicles
Scope 2
Emissions from sources a firm owns or controls directly – e.g., burning fuel in our fleet of vehicles
Scope 1
GHG emissions that are not produced directly by a company’s activities, but occur along the company’s value chain - e.g., airplane emissions from Langan’s business travel
Scope 3
Firm Initiatives
Langan has been carbon neutral in scope 1 and 2 emissions since 2018, joining the growing ranks of organizations around the globe that are holding themselves accountable for the carbon emissions they produce and taking steps to minimize them.
Langan measures and calculates scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 (business travel and remote work only) GHG emissions resulting from our operations each year in alignment with the World Resources Institute GreenhouseGas Protocol.
We are continuously working to reduce our carbon footprint by implementing green office operations, making sure that new Langan offices are in LEED-certified buildings or meet other energy efficiency standards, transitioning our fleet to electric vehicles, and making informed decisions about business travel.
To monitor our progress reducing our carbon footprint, Langan evaluates emission reductions on a carbon intensity basis. This approach allows us to track the impact of our reduction efforts while accounting for business growth. Langan’s carbon intensity decreased from 13.4 tons CO2e per $million in 2019 to 7.4 tons CO2e per $million in 2022—a 45% decrease. To address the remaining emissions, we have partnered with ClimeCo (previously Carbonfund.org) to offset our scope 1, 2, and partial scope 3 emissions.
As part of our commitment to transparency and environmental responsibility, Langan discloses our GHG emissions and progress made on reduction efforts each year. Presently, Langan does not engage an independent third party to verify our GHG emissions inventory and we have not yet established formal targets or goals for GHG reduction. We recognize the critical importance of taking steps toward assessing and mitigating our environmental impact. Aswe continue to evaluate the best path forward to demonstrate our dedicationto sustainability, we are actively exploring options to develop a comprehensive GHG emissions management plan, including the consideration of third-party verification and the establishment of formal GHG reduction targets.

CARBON FOOTPRINT
Carbon Offsetting
Since 2018, Langan has partnered with The Carbonfund.org Foundation, whose offsetting program is now led by ClimeCo, to offset our residual GHG emissions by supporting verified emission reduction programs around the world. In 2023, Langan purchased and retired 3,382 metric tons of verified carbon offsets through ClimeCo to offset our 2022 GHG emissions. These verified offsets supported emission reduction projects focused on avoiding deforestation, generating wind energy, and reducing nitrous oxide emissions (a GHG that has nearly 300 times the warming potential of carbon dioxide).
For details on CA AB-1305 compliance—including project registration, verification status and methodology, and third-party verifiers—please refer to the Carbon Offset Project Information section of the ClimeCo website and the associated project links provided in the table.
*Scope 3 emissions currently include business travel and remote work emissions only, pending a full materiality assessment to identify additional relevant emission categories.
