THE GRANDDADDY
The bowl system began in 1902 with the East-West game in Pasadena, California. It was held on New Year's Day in conjunction with the Tournament of Roses. The game was renamed the Rose Bowl in the late 1920s due to the shape of the new stadium built in Pasadena.
