LAVELLE
ROSE
Rose Lavelle was on her way to scoring six goals in the first 15 games of her freshman season with the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team when coach Paula Wilkins delivered an assessment that proved prescient. Lavelle “can be one of the most special players that I’ve had,” Wilkins said before the 2013 season was even a month old. By the end of that season, the midfielder was UW’s first Big Ten freshman of the year and a first-team all-league selection. The first-team picks kept coming three more times, making Lavelle the first Badgers women’s soccer player with four turns on that list.

Lavelle made history on her way out of UW, too: She was the No. 1 pick in the 2017 National Women’s Soccer League draft by the Boston Breakers. No Badgers player had been the top pick in his or her league’s draft to that point.
