Helping developing nations to lower their carbon emissions.
A very sizeable proportion of the increase in greenhouse gases emanates from Emerging Markets and Developing Economies (EMDEs).1
Key to supporting these countries in reducing these emissions is to finance the new infrastructure and industries that will help their transition paths. Private credit markets can aid in this, as they can provide swift and targeted borrowing, outside of the wider public markets. We are working with partners to deliver some of this funding.
These types of loans pay commercial rates of interest, so as well as helping to smooth less developed nations’ transition to a lower carbon future, we believe they can be a compelling investment proposition.
1.According to the World Economic Forum this proportion is on a trajectory to reach over 95% in the next few years. 3 actions to accelerate emerging market climate transition | World Economic Forum (weforum.org)
