The U.S. Navy operates 10 Nimitz-Class aircraft carriers, which focus on air wings featuring F/A-18 Super Hornets and certain ships supporting F-35C Joint Strike Fighters. These carriers are equipped with short-range defensive systems, including the Ship Self Defense System (SSDS). The latest Lockheed Martin developed SSDS Baseline 12, enhances self-defense capabilities with advanced electronic warfare, warfighter training, and over 20 cybersecurity improvements, extending protection to cyber warfare.

The USS Gerald Ford (CVN 78) leads the Navy's fleet as the only deployed Ford-Class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier for the U.S. Navy. With three more Ford-Class carriers under construction, these larger, more advanced ships will be equipped with SSDS Baseline 12, enhancing self-defense and cyber security capabilities, and supporting the F-35C. With over 20 cybersecurity improvements, Ford-Class carriers are Ahead of Ready, poised to defend against evolving threats.

There are two active America-Class Landing Helicopter Assault (LHA) amphibious assault ships with two additional ships under construction. Unlike LPDs and LHDs, the first two ships of the class were built without well decks and do not support carrying Landing Craft Air Cushion hovercrafts. They are designed with air traffic control capabilities and carry aircraft such as MH-60S helicopters, MV-22 Osprey and vertical/short takeoff and landing (VSTOL) craft such as the F-35B (Joint Strike Fighter STOVL variant). Once upgraded with SSDS Baseline 12, it will add support for Rolling Airframe Missile Block 2B (RAM BLK 2B) and improves warfighter training capabilities by integrating the same Advanced Training Domain component equipped on Aegis Baseline 9 and 10 platforms.
