We’ll need eyes and ears in the skies, on land and underwater.
And moreover, we’ll need all those domains to simultaneously communicate with one another and quickly act based on that information.
To ensure we outpace evolving threats and build a dominant future fleet, we’re pushing the envelope in these emerging technology areas.
It enables us to quickly create solutions for current threats while also preparing our customers for what’s ahead.
We use virtualization to proactively run Aegis through combat scenarios on the horizon and prove out our software on threats that don’t even exist yet.
So we can do things like deploy a digital “twin” of Aegis, which is a complete digital representation of the ship’s weapon system running in a virtual environment. This facilitates rapid capability improvements and supports testing and deployment.
And we’re integrating it into everything we do for the surface fleet.
Virtualization, in computing, creates a virtual version of a device such as a server, network or even an operating system.
but defining what’s possible.
And suddenly, we’re not only designing for the future,
Technologies like this will not only have big impacts for the future fleet, but also for the self-driving car industry and other autonomous vehicles.
Sensors like this can operate undetected in contested environments,
simultaneously listening for, detecting and mitigating threats.
In the past, this ability might only have been possessed by a superhuman,
but we’re developing special sensor technology in our labs to enable this for machines, and it’s called Broadband Electromagnetic Aperture.
Imagine talking to 15 people simultaneously, only you can listen to and understand everything they’re saying – all at the same time.
The Ultimate Sensor
Untraceable, undetectable, un-jammable navigation at your fingertips.
The data is then overlaid with known maps of Earth’s magnetic field to tell you precisely where you are.
That’s where quantum navigation can help. Our team of quantum physicists have developed a magnetometer called Dark Ice which uses a synthetic diamond to measure the direction and strength of nearly imperceptible magnetic field anomalies.
But those signals can be blocked or intercepted.
Now sailors use GPS, which works by triangulating satellite signals to pinpoint location.
In the past, sailors used stars for navigation.
