Construction currently operates on a linear model. Virgin materials are extracted time and time again for a single use in a building, only for it to be demolished at the end of its life.
There is an alternative way – circularity – sustainably delivering and operating the built environment in a way that minimises the consumption of resources.

Closing
the circle
Research from the World Green Building Council in 2023 revealed that despite covering 2% of the world’s surface, cities contributed to half of all resource consumption and a staggering 70% of CO2 emissions.
The built environment plays a hugely important role in tackling climate change. At Mace, we have set the following 2026 goals:
- Reduce our corporate carbon footprint by 10% each year.
- Save 10 million tonnes of client carbon by 2026.
- Deliver 500 hectares of biodiversity gain.
