New Supervisor Immersion
While the climb to the top may appear challenging, the New Supervisor Immersion training program will help new and aspiring federal leaders get from here to there — and beyond.
Getting Started
Purpose: To Determine Fit
Learners begin by submitting an application essay showcasing their writing abilities. Once accepted to NSI, learners will undergo an assessment to identify innate strengths, which will be discussed on the first day of class. Additionally, learners will complete a competency assessment to gauge their current skills and set goals.

Purpose: To Orient
The cohort kickoff offers learners their first opportunity to meet their peers, understand the program's components, and get acquainted with the support team.

Week 12—Success!
Step 9
Purpose: To Celebrate Success | Focus: On Experience
This week concludes the New Supervisor Immersion program, with participants meeting in person. They'll complete a coaching module, present their agency challenge solutions to senior leadership, and engage in a half-day exercise to consolidate their learnings. The program wraps up with each member presenting their reflection papers, outlining their growth and future plans as supervisors.
Weeks 10-11
Step 8
Purpose: To Continue Agency Mission | Focus: On Business Acumen
Week 10 allows cohort members to start finalizing their individual research assignments. In Week 11, learners dedicate time to refining their solutions to agency challenges, working in small groups to finalize and prepare their presentations for senior leadership, which they will deliver in the final week.

Step 7
Purpose: To Increase Knowledge | Focus: On Teams
In Week 8, cohort members will have the opportunity to refine their recommendations for their agency's challenges, including a half-day with their team action coach. Week 9 features a focused day on team building, motivation, and engagement strategies led by the facilitator.
Weeks 6-7
Step 6
Purpose: To Grow Cohesion | Focus: On Self
Week 6 focuses on tactical supervision skills, including delegation, identifying performance issues, providing feedback, and appraising performance. Week 7 offers a debrief on a psychometric assessment, deepening self-understanding and leadership insights, with learners sharing reflections in the online forum.

Purpose: To Learn | Focus: On Business Acumen
Week 4 involves a half-day for cohort members to deepen their research on thought leaders and check-in with their accountability partner. In Week 5, learners explore a novel problem-solving methodology in small groups, addressing their agency's urgent challenges with a certified coach's support, and collaboratively solving a case study.

In Week 2, cohort members can learn at their pace and meet their mentor, while researching their final paper’s thought leader. Week 3 features a 2-day HR Essentials class for Government Supervisors and encourages contributions to the cohort’s learning platform.
