Nearly 4 million babies are born in the U.S. each year. Unfortunately, too many families are not able to get the best possible start. Giving Day is your chance to change that. Donate to March of Dimes to help raise $400,000 to level the playing field so that all moms and babies are healthy, regardless of wealth, race, gender or geography. Give by 8/26 and your gift will be tripled to have an even bigger impact!

Pregnancy can be difficult at any time. Early in Chelsie’s pregnancy, she thought she was going to lose her baby. At 20 weeks she needed surgery in order to stay pregnant, and then a week later she went into active labor. After having an emergency C-section at 23 weeks due to a placental abruption on top of a lot of blood clotting, her daughter Sarah was in the NICU for 4 months. That first year at home was rough with monthly emergency room visits and hospitalizations. Today Sarah is doing well, but the lasting effects of preterm birth fall on Chelsie. We’re working to end preventable maternal health risks and death so that every mom and baby is healthy.

MEET SCARLETT
Chris and Pricilla’s daughter, Scarlett, spent 10 days in the NICU after being born 5 and a half weeks early via emergency C-section. Six months into her pregnancy, Pricilla started being monitored for low platelets until she was eventually diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, a complication that affects the blood and liver. While it was not what they were expecting, doctors assured them that delivering Scarlett immediately was the best thing for everyone. “The NICU staff had such a positive impact on me and my family, and we’re forever grateful,” said Chris.

Meet Charles
The birth of Charles’ second son turned into a tragedy before his eyes. After his wife Kira gave birth during a routine C-section to Langston, who was born perfectly healthy, Charles saw blood coming from the catheter by her bedside while in recovery. He brought it to the attention of the doctors and nurses, but hours went by, causing her to hemorrhage for almost 10 hours. And her heart stopped immediately. Unfortunately, Charles’ story is not unique. That’s why we’re advocating on behalf of every family to pass laws to improve health equity and prioritize mom and baby health.
